I am a local for many years in Stoneybatter. I have seen cafes of all kinds open and close regularly but Java Bay remains. It has that special something that is lacking in many others in this city. it’s a genuinely independently owned café with owner working hands on alongside his staff everyday. The result is: consistently good food, tasty, generous portions. It’s also a comfortable easy place to sit for a while without being hassled. I hope it stays forever

Similar to other customers, I have passed this café a hundred times and never thought much of it, it just never stood out ! I decided to give it a try and was very pleasantly surprised! They have a great selection of lovely cakes that are all home made. They also do a range of paninis and sandwiches. Paninis have basically gone out of fashion in the last few years, and now only really standard places your Granny might like seem to serve them. I used to love paninis. In my opinion, paninis were for life, not just for Celtic Tiger era Ireland. One of the last times I had ordered one was at a Brambles café, and they gave me a toasted baguette. Not flattened, not a panini. Just a toasted baguette. I had finally accepted that paninis were now nothing more than a culinary relic of the past, when I took a chance and ordered one at Java Bay. I am pleased to announce the what I received was a perfect, nostalgic, delicious panini! The fillings were gorgeous, the bread was fresh and crispy, grilled to perfection. I was in heaven! It also came with a side salad which as really fresh and tasty. On top of this, the food is well priced for what you are getting and the staff are lovely. Definitely one to try if you’re in the area(and love a good panini!).

I drove past this place a million times without ever being tempted to go in. This is mainly due to the fact that is looks a bit sad on first glance. It is on the small side which is not necessarily a bad thing and we did get a table without sitting on top of other people. The menu is rather big for a little place like that with all sorts of sandwiches, paninis, lasagne and sweet treats. I chose a pear muffin and coffee which was very Italian: nice and strong. My friend had a Tuscan panini which came with a side of chick pea salad. Very good value for the quality and amount of food you get. They won we over with their selection of cakes and music. In that order.

I’ve been living around the corner from this little spot for about six months now and never thought to venture in. I think this is mainly due to the fact that it’s called Java Bay, so I had this idea for some reason that this was your bog standard coffee shop. Can you guess what’s coming next? Turns out I was wrong! They have a really nice selection of very high quality food in here, including unreal looking mud cakes, apple pies, peacan pies, and a section of hot and cold savoury food. I went for a meditteranian veg, chicken and cream cheese wrap which was lightly toasted. It was divine. Really and truly. I took it away and ate it at home, but there are some lovely seats out the front which I might take up next time to do some proper people watching as I eat.

Had a delicious lunch here today. I had a honey baked ham sandwich(€ 6.60) and my boyfriend had the lasagne(€ 8.95). The portions were huge and both came with a delish salad and olives. Busy owl spot aswell especially as we were here on a Monday around 3pm. We would of liked to try the coffee and a muffin but as we did not have enough cash on us it was a no go(they don’t take cards) but we’ll be back again to enjoy some more Java Bay delights!

Nice located Coffee spot in the heart of Stoneybatter. They do rich and good coffee but their highlight were the gluten free brownies. Only downside as we got there they only had one left but as sharing is caring me and my friend did not mind to share this tasty little chocolate delight! Hopefully next time they have more in stock.

This place is always popping every time I go in or pass it. It probably is one of the best café stops in the area; they do great sandwiches really wholesome stuff with delicious fillings. I had the chicken salad sandwich and a cappuccino, creamy and frothy, really lovely. Reasonably priced too and good lunch selection. From sandwiches to hot dishes. I really like their coffee, anywhere that calls themselves Java Bay must be confident that they know a thing or two about coffee.
