Located almost opposite the Keel Sandybanks campsite, Mináun View Bar is a very boring looking pub when viewed from the outside. It has the look of a GAA club I thought. I decided to leave it till the last pub I went to before retiring to the campsite. It turned out to be quite an interesting pub. The décor inside is a little odd with a floral pattern to all the furniture but it grew on me. There is a fireplace which is probably nice during the winter when lit. There was supposed to be live music but when I left at nearly 10pm there was no sign. I noticed a fair bit of IRA and Sinn Féin related stuff including a Sinn Féin collection box for elections and another box for the Rossport 5. Why there was a collection box for for prisoners released in 2005 I don’t know but there was also posters about out them. All they did was protest a gas pipeline over their land. There is a pool table if you fancy a game. They could do with a dart board I reckon. Anyway I liked the atmosphere and the Guinness was rather good, a feature of both of the main pubs in Keel. If you are in the area and especially staying at the campsite, don’t overlook this bar.
