Three and a half stars. I find it to be overrated and got my hopes high before trying the gelato. They had very special flavors, but nothing was outstanding. I felt bad asking the lady to try samples, she seemed pissed off I was interrupting her conversation with a man who was trying to date her. I went with chocolate and pistachio. Yes to the pistachio, that flavor was outstanding. The price is pricy, bad customer service, and you can’t see the gelato it’s contained in stainless steel tubs with lids, another downfall.

Fresh GLUTENFREE gelato made with seasonal fruit. The grape gelato was amazing. My only recommendation would be to make it not quite as sweet.

My favorite gelato in Florence. Simone Bonini creates exceptional gelato and seasonal sorbet. Be sure to taste the Chocolate Sorbet ‘Nero Assoluto’ the sorbets are incredible! Now in season watermelon, apricot, and peach sorbet If you happen to be in Rome you can find this gelato boutique in the capital !

I walked in for a gelato yesterday and walked out with a 13euro container instead. The gelato here is artisanal, and made with the utmost of care, onsite. It was recommended to me by a florence food guide who considers Carapina to be of the highest quality gelato in the city. Try the frescacarapina if you like mojitos. The fresh mint and citrus is a knockout.

Great gelato, among the best we had in Rome and Florence. Flavors were full and robust. Moderately priced.

Hands down the BEST gelato I had during my two week trip in Italy. I was especially blown away by the fruit flavor. I had hazelnut and pineapple, the latter of which was divine! Hazelnut was good solid choice but most places do a reasonably good job with it so not that special. Definitely get the fruit flavors!

Just because you’re in Italy it doesn’t mean all gelato is good. I cringe when I see people holding jumbo sized cones or gelaterias with mountains of gelato in their displays. Quality over quantity people! I eat gelato a couple of times a week and Carapina is one of my two all time favorites. They use fresh and quality ingredients and you can taste it. Normally, if you see that a gelateria holds it’s gelato in metal tin containers, you’re getting fresher artisanal product. Carapina is named after such container. I haven’t had a flavor I didn’t like, but if you’re not sure ask to try a flavor before you commit. Have you ever had pine nut(pinoli) gelato? You must. What about watermelon(anguria)? Divine. I’ve read other reviews that complain about the prize of $ 2.50 for a two flavor cone or cup, which is the minimum you can order. To this I say, go to other gelaterias that give you artificial flavored gelato. You get what you pay for. My stomach has never hurt after eating their gelato and I can’t say the same thing for other popular gelaterias in town.
