Great food and décor … Light fare, great wait staff only disappointment was the zucchini blossoms… not the whole blossom and a bit over fried, other wise it would have been a 5!

This is my favorite restaurant in Florence for the food, the wine, the décor, and the waitstaff. All are excellent! As a solo traveler, one can feel a little self conscious from time to time in a city where couples and groups are the norm in restaurants, but Il Gastone’s staff is friendly and professional, and so it’s never awkward to eat there alone or in company. And the food? Amazing. I’ve been there for lunch and had an amazing salad(mixed greens with pancetta crocante, slices of ripe pear, and slices of an aged pecorino, drizzled with a little honey… delish!) and dinner there has never disappointed. Their shrimp carpaccio is fabulous with just the right textures used to offset the creamy raw shrimp. Grilled sea bass or octopus as a main — you can’t go wrong. Pastas are incredible, especially the spaghetti with sea bream and pistachios. Dessert is just as good. I’ve created exquisite meals by consulting with the waiters who know what’s good that night. The menu is seasonal and this summer’s is completely different from last year’s — which means the chefs don’t get bored and neither will you. I will definitely be back!
