I’d rate this little gem as 6 stars if it was available. An otherwise innocuous looking hole in the wall restaurant we instantly felt like family when we walked through the door. The owner was engaging and quickly became my new best friend — he went over the expansive menu and after much deliberation we settled on the vegetarian antipasti. The truffles pasta dish was heavenly but the house special(later we learned it was called the«John Travolta») was cosmic. We were speechless as we devoured every last drop of this spectacular dish. Not like I’m the first person to think of this but that sauce needs to be bottled … Or maybe not. Maybe it’s better staying only at this little hole in the wall restaurant on a relatively non-descript street in Firenze.

Service was wonderful, food was very great. Lots of specials and plenty to choose from. Almost too many options! Had the Italian version of brick chicken(special) and I loved the grilled veggie platter. Didn’t hit the dessert platter this time around but it looked very impressive and everything was home made.

Claudio is a gem. The food was good, but the prices and service were not. In a town where finding affordable and quality food is as simple as walking across the river, we were a bit annoyed by the high prices. Add to that a € 3.50 cover charge per person and the 10% service fee(fees we had yet to encounter) and it canceled out the good food. Word to the wise, cross the river, your stomach won’t know the difference but your wallet will thank you.

The food was unbelievably delicious(and light, even dessert)! Staff was friendly and had great humor, very welcoming. We came here on the recommendation of a friend and I was concerned when we first sat down because the only other patrons were other tourists(though it was only 7:00pm), which isn’t always the best sign when you’re in search of authentic local fare. However, everything was simply incredible. We had seasonal eggplant, and one of their historic pasta dishes that our waiter described as the best on the menu. Both were incredible. The only reason that I docked one star is that the signature pasta dish(which cost 32 euro) came with six(yes, 6) pieces of pasta. Not oversized, crazy huge pasta, just six pieces of regular sized pasta. The sauce was so complex and delicious that I’m sure it includes some expensive ingredients(truffle oil, fancy mushrooms, etc.) but it was a bit of a shock when it first came. Despite that we left satisfied and would return in the future.

We ate here our first night in Florence, just by chance. We had to wait until 9pm for a table, and we were finally shown to our seats in a back room that was away from the energy of the main room. This was annoying since another couple came in at the last minute, talked to the woman doing the seating about how they wanted one last meal here before the left town, and they were given the window table that was being cleared for us. Bad form. It took an hour to get our plates of pasta, our first glasses of wine sat empty since the waiter rarely came back. The food was good, the bruschetta excellent actually. The pasta primavera included only peas and carrots, which was unremarkable. The shrimp and pasta was very good, although the shrimp is served whole and in the sauce so you have no choice but to stick your hands in your dinner to get the shell off.

By far the best restaurant in Florence. Food is so delicious here(lunch or dinner). Very traditional and it’s been here for more than 30 years. Run by a charming couple who will treat you like family! Such a satisfying experience!

Amazing service and amazing food. A recommendation of our concierge, our family of 5 dined there at 8:30. Owner and his wife were gracious hosts — explaining the menu, making recommendations. House red wine was fabulous as was mixed appetizer plate(incl fried zucchini blossoms), must try john travolta pasta, grilled lamb chops and duck breast also fabulous. Tiramisu very light and wonderful.

My family and I ate here twice in our short time in Florence. They were our best meals in Florence. The atmosphere is very warm and reflects the family nature of the restaurant. Can’t remember the names of the dishes but ask for the«John travolta» pasta. Also the Mediterranean and the spinach ravioli. The sliced steak is a classic Tuscan preparation and is very very good.

Great restaurant a bit off the center of Firenze! The waiter was very warm and welcoming. He explained the menu in thorough detail to us. The restaurant was very cozy and popular! I ordered the truffle dish(it’s one of their special dishes unique to the restaurant). It was delicious, but expect ALOT of bright neon yellow and cheese. I like cheese(not a huge fan), so it was a bit cheesy for me, but it was delicious regardless. My father ordered the tripe(stomach lining of a cow), and it was scrumptious. The tripe is mixed in with other ingredients. It was a bit salty, but it’s definitely not a dish you should be scared to try! Overall, quality experience for a little over € 100 and a Michelin star.

The food is great and the people are extremely friendly. This place becomes our instant favorite and we are going back again. We called ahead of the time and we are glad we did, the restaurant seems to be very popular and has many returning customers. The service was very good. The menu was explained in English to us and excellent recommendations were given to us. The steak florentine was huge but of very good quality. The tiramisu was heavenly!!!

Very nice restaurant with warm people. Tried pasta with wild boar sauce(waiter told me wild boar sauce was slow cooked for three hours), smelled heavenly and tasted great. Was in a rush and didn’t order dessert, but the owner was so kind that she offered their best dessert. All was great and definitely will visit next time.

Love this tiny gem The owners are warm and welcoming. The place is charming. When I did not know what wine to order they set up a wine tasting for me to try all their wines by the glass to help me choose. I love that! All the food we had was terrific but what stood out the most was a dish not on the menu called the John Travolta. Yes it apparently is Travolta’s favorite dish. What makes this pasta dish so special is the sauce. It is a vodka sauce but they blend high quality prosciutto in it for taste and texture and it is by far the best vodka sauce in the world Do not miss this restaurant

Best restaurant Florence! Have been here many times over the years. Florence has many amazing places to eat, but Il Profeta rises above them all. Family owned with indescribably delicious house specials that you won’t find anywhere else. Can’t rave enough about the quality of the food, wine, atmosphere, owners and staff.

This restaurant was recommended by friends of a friend who studies abroad in Florence. It was the best meal that I had while on a 3 week tour of Europe. We were a party of 7 and had made reservations ahead of time. We were seated right away and our waiter immediately asked which language he should speak in. If I remember correctly there were at least 5 or 6 others that he spoke. He went through the menu item by item to make sure that we understood what everything was. We ordered the house wine, which was so good that we ordered two more throughout our meal. We ordered the asparagus with parmesan to start. The John Travolta pasta had been recommended to us, so three of us ordered it. When it came to the table, they brought extra dishes, so that the other women could try it. I have never had a pasta so delicious. I can’t even explain what is in the sauce, but it is so good. We also ordered the pasta with truffle sauce and parmesan crust. It was very rich, but also very delicious. We tried almost all of the desserts among the 7 of us and all were fantastic. My favorite was death by chocolate, but their tiramisu is also something that can’t be missed. What an extraordinary meal!

Our apartment was literally across the street from Il Profeta(a Michelin rated restaurant). We waited until our very last evening in Firenze to dine here and it was a treat beyond belief! What a way to end our vacation! The owners(20 years!) Claudio and Martine are so lovely. Our waiter was helpful, efficient and friendly not to mention a good photographer(he stood in the middle of the street to snap a picture for us!). Our waiter brought me a few different house wines to try wanting us to be happy with our selection. Our meal was wonderful from appetizer to dessert. The problem is I must have drank too much wine because I literally cannot remember what we ate that night with the exception of my husband spontaneously ordering their tripe in a light tomato broth(which he said was like butter in his mouth). Claudio told him an amusing story about a women from the East Coast ordering the tripe… thinking it was fish. NOT! In addition to the delicious food and wonderful atmosphere, when we expressed our concern to Claudio about securing a taxi the next morning to take us to the airport(we had a 7am flight… ugh!), he took it upon himself to make the arrangements for us and a cab showed up the next morning at 5am on the dot! Thank you, Claudio!

* Amazing Tuscan appetizer sampler and best pasta sauce I have had for their specialty pasta * Owner takes our orders personally and passionately explains each dish * The tiramisu and dark chocolate cake is out of this world. Not too sweet and very pure

Delicious meal. We came here after our tour guide said this was one of her favorite places to eat and she’s born and raised in Florence. She was right. The food was delicious. The waiters spoke very good English. Everything we ate was amazing. Loved my Ribollita soup. Wish the size was a bit bigger, but then again I’m eating with my eyes. I got the Primavera pasta, which is something I would never get in the States cuz it always tastes like crap in the States. But here it was so delicious and fresh with bright green peas, asparagus and fresh pasta. I loved it and would get it again. Hubby got the Antipasto Rustica — it was a vegetarian dish with many different little bite sized treats. The waiter will explain what is all in it. He also got the wild boar pasta that didn’t even taste like pork It tasted like beef. He was scraping the plate to get every last bit of sauce off. Loved, loved the olive oil they used. We had the toasted bread drizzled with olive oil and it was phenomenal. Nothing like the rancid olive oils you get back in the States. This was definitely the real deal. For dessert, we had the tiramisu, which is the house specialty. We were drawn to it because the waiter said it’s not like traditional tiramisu — instead of a ton of mascarpone cheese, it was made with egg whites and a little bit of mascarpone. It’s way lighter, which is perfect for what we wanted in a dessert. All that food, house wine, water, 3.5 Euro pp cover charge, 10% service fee came out to be just north of 80 Euros.

After 5 days in Italy we have been trying to have a special meal in Florence but our disappointment continued at il profeta. Our expectations were high as our daughter had been told by many friends that this was a great place to dine. Visiting over Easter week can make things difficult in florence but at il profeta it seemed you were eating in a New York suburb. Not an Italian patron to be seen. This has nothing to do with the restaurant and it’s food. The service was excellent however they took advantage whenever they could. For example I ordered the bruschetta for myself and they brought it for everyone. $ 4 euros each for six people. I ordered a nice bottle of wine to start. And tried to go to a lesser priced wine next. They basically refused me… Ok now on to the food. Although some dishes were very good. The lemon shrimp and Mediterranean pasta were excellent. The old style steak was very tender and liked by some and thought to be strangely flavored by others. The Parmesan cheese bowl pasta was unusual and found repulsive by some and great by others in our party. The caprese salad was excellent. The eggplant Parmesan was not worth eating. Deserts were also mixed. Tiramisu was very good while profiteroles were just ok. So my review just sounds mixed but once you get the check you cannot believe ho much they are charging you for this experience. The price makes no sense. Very disappointing! One high point the bread was the best so far in Tuscany.
