We went in for dinner excited after reading previous reviews but were unfortunately strongly disappointed. The waiter sat us outside at one of their covered patio tables. Shortly after my mom had begun sipping her glass of wine and we had poured balsamic on the ham and goat cheese salad we ordered, a prolific number of flies started to congregate around us – and our food. It is not our manner to make a scene, and indeed we tried to squish and swat them away for probably 10 minutes, but we eventually and uncomfortably realized it was impossible to eat with flies landing on literally every object on the table, including our plates, our glasses of wine and water, and the food which we could not finish. When we told the waiters about the flies the first time, they both gave us an answer along the lines of «it’s just the time of year for a lot of flies.»(Late May?) When we asked a second time around five minutes later, this time asking if we could just pay for what we had eaten and leave(our request was denied), they then asked us if we would like to move inside to eat, which we did. The waiters forgot our bread both inside and outside and our napkins inside. The salad I mentioned previously tasted decent(the goat cheese looked and tasted a lot like cream cheese, though) but was not up to the standards of food I have had in Florentine restaurants only a few blocks away. I ordered the tagliatelle ragu, which was a bit bland and dry and not al dente(whether or not that was intended). My mom ordered grilled chicken with salad — the chicken was extremely dry and underseasoned, cut into strips as if it were about to be chopped and thrown in my Chipotle bowl, and placed on undressed romaine lettuce, raddichio, and tomatoes. I suppose it is possible that somehow all three dishes we ordered were not the restaurant’s strong suits, but I feel that our experience was important to share to better represent this restaurant. Yes, this place is edible, but I would strongly suggest trying elsewhere first for that delicious meal you probably came to Florence looking for.

One of the best meals I had in Florence and one of the best appetizers I’ve had in my life. Legitimately. The day we went was raining so we had to retreat to indoor seating, while is was pretty cramped they made use of the space nicely. The service was very attentive and helpful– even trying very hard to explain a few things in English. We ordered an appetizer of ham wrapped goat cheese– it almost changed my life. Had I known how amazing these little treats would be I would have ordered 5 plates of them and not been ashamed. For a second pre-meal we ordered a macaroni with spicy sausage and the main dishes we went with were the eggplant parmigiana and a spicy cheese chicken dish. Everything we stuck our fork in was delicious! On any future trip to Florence we will definitely be showing our faces and stuffing our bellies here!

After climbing the Duomo, Sasso di Dante was perfect. The staff is incredibly friendly and the restaurant is homey and inviting. The eggplant parm is to die for, you can taste the char of the eggplant. The bruschetta is also amazing. Add a glass of red wine and you will be set!

We went to this restaurant as it was right around the corner from our hotel. So glad we did. The food was delicious(best tasting eggplant I’ve ever had) and at a great price. The view was awesome too. Definitely recommend checking it out.

Best meal I have had on my trip so far. We split the eggplant and it was to die for. I had the gnocchi Gorgonzola with truffle oil and it was delicious. Well reasonably priced we had three meals and a ½ lt of house wine for 44 $. The staff was friendly.

Had a terrific steak with black truffles last December. This is a small place and the chef knows what to do. We returned to get some pasta with truffles and it was outstanding. Nice people, reasonable prices, good house wine.

Stopped by here at the recommendation of our hotel staff. It’s a charming little place in the shadow of the Duomo. It’s a terrific atmosphere, and a bit surreal as you look out onto the piazza. The food was fresh and tasty. Grilled lamb was good, as was the gnocchi di bolognese. Enjoyed some delicious Brunello. Would definitely recommend.

This is by far my favorite restaurant in the world. It’s become the standard of which I base every Italian restaurant off of. The bucatini is fantastic. Deeply flavorful and perfectly cooked. You may think that it’s going to be touristy because of its proximity to the duomo, but it was completely authentic and the service was great.

The prices were great. Food was simple. Eggplant Parm was good. Gnocchi with Gorgonzola and Truffle oil was amazing. Spaghetti pomodoro was over cooked and not al dente. Caprese salad was simple(all ingredients unassembled). Overall good lunch spot.

Whenever I have friends or family come to visit in Florence I take them to Sasso Di Dante. The typical Tuscan food is always good and the prices very reasonable, especially given that it’s situated right in front of the duomo, where you would normally find most of the tourist traps! The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable about their food and wine. I have been to Sasso di Dante I guess around 20 times and have always had consistently good food. I’m vegetarian and I recommend any of the pasta dishes without meat, but I can say from the other people who have eaten there with me that the ossobuco and the bistecca are both excellent.

Ate there several times. Agree with previous reviews. Food good but not outstanding. Seating pattern very tight including outside.

Had the sliced beef in balsamic, very good. as well as the eggplant parma. Wine was OK. Had a house Chianti Reserva and Brunello di Montalcino. Both were OK but not high end. Location is great, view of the Doumo dome. Small, local, fun.

I really enjoyed the pasta with gorgonzola and truffle oil. A bit pricey but right next to the Duomo. The staff was friendly and ordering in English was easy. It’s a little place right next to the Duomo.

My all-time favourite restaurant in Florence! The food is fabulous, especially the spinach gnocchi. The service is great and because the restaurant is family-run, the owner gives a warm reception to each customer. It’s so refreshing to go to an unpretentious restaurant where the food is yummy and the staff seems to actually care about their customers and it’s literally right under the Duomo. What could be better?
