We were on holiday in Pittulongu for 10 days and had a chance to check out pretty much all of the restaurants in the village and this one was undoubtedly the best. Good food? Check! Friendly service? Check! Value for money? Check and check! Don’t take my word for it, by all means go to all the others as well. Or you could just enjoy the beach and good food for the duration of your stay.

It was hot, we were hungry and we needed to find somewhere to eat before everything closed for siesta. Somehow we stumbled across Mascapoti, an uninspiring sort of place with a real pizzeria air to it, on the main road from Golfo Aranci to Olbia. Inside we were seated at an outdoor table next to a whirring air conditioning unit, which annoyed a little. Sadly, they didn’t have pizza on the lunch menu, although the proprietor later encouraged me to return that evening when pizza would be served. He said the Mascapoti pizza was very, very good. We shared a tuna tartare to start, and moved onto fresh seafood spaghetti, all of which was served on beautiful square and rectangular plates with a bronze and black glaze. The spaghetti was served by the waiter, who ensured that the shellfish and crustaceans were evenly distributed in an attractive manner. As Monsieur later commented: we have eaten at better places in Sardinia, but even Mascapoti served better Italian food than we’d ever find for the same price in London. Attentive staff, laid-back atmosphere, boring surroundings but the locals all eat here, so that’s a very good sign indeed.
