I give Pizzeria di Gennaro a big fat meh. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great, either. The ambience is absolutely terrible – bad lighting, depressing gray walls… it feels institutional, and not in the this-place-is-an-institution sort of way. The food was fine, but nothing to write home about. Also, the waiters wear fanny packs. If that isn’t hilarious, I don’t know what is.

the service here, yes, was slow, and for that reason, i would give it a 3 and ½ if i could. however, they were quite busy on the afternoon we went, and the service was no worse than other places we have been in italy. the food was the best pizza we have had while in italy, and we have tried a few places. the crust on mine was cooked well, with no sogginess in the center that has plagued other pizza places with thin crusts. the sauce to cheese ratio was good. the ham on my husband’s pizza could have been better, but we had recently been in parma where ham is produced, and likely were a bit spoiled. i could do without the 4 euro coke, but i guess if you really want(and i did), you pay it(and i did). i would recommend this place to tourists, they had a multi language menu(not sure how those prices compared to the menu that was in italian, which is separate).
