We had an hour to kill before our excursion in Naples(Napoli) and we figured we should have pizza. After all, we were at the unofficial birthplace of pizza so how bad could it be? Well, turned out — pretty bad! The place was the closest Pizza place we ran across walking from the port and they had the outside patio with umbrellas so we decided to try them. The waiter was pretty quick in getting our orders and we were sipping our drinks that came in before that. We ordered a pizza and an appetizer of various meats and cheeses. Well, when the pizza came, it was anything but what we expected. It had very liquid-ish sauce, which was nearly splashing on top of the pizza and several pieces of sausages(it was a sausage pizza of sort) spread across. It looked as if it was half way done when they took it out of the oven. Even thought the crust was not bad and cooked through, the whole thing tasted like a warm wet meaty bread. Considering that the day before we had pizza in a small pizzeria in Rome, which didn’t have multiple waiters nearly fighting for the customers and didn’t have a pretense of something they are not, this«original» pizza didn’t taste anything like a significantly cheaper pizza there. The 12 euro appetizer turned out to be couple of pieces of hard cheese and several thin slices of meat. Not bad, but not quite enough to justify the price tag. When the check came, we were also surprised to see a 4 euro surcharge there. When we asked, we were told that it’s for the table(I assume since we were outside). A lot of places in Europe have some sort of surcharge for that, but never have I seen it being 4 euro. Overall, I’d opt for another place if you want a quality pizza while in Napoli.

Tourist chain. Ok food. Ok service. Probably can do better. Ok if raining(as it is today) and you can’t find anything else.
