As a nearly regular visitor to Perugia, I was surprised to discover the mini metro which connects the lower parts of the city and the train station to the city center at the top. There are few signs at the train station that guide you to the Fontivegge station of the minimetro. And as the metro signs within the city are also not self explanatory, it came actually as a surprise to discover it. All the more amazing to discover a fully automated driver less service with an amazing amount of one-carriage-trains that depart appearantly every minute or so. The service is extremely effective and makes any other Metro I a have seen in the world look very old. When we used it late saturday night(it closes at 9 pm) it was nearly empty, so I kept wondering how much subsidies from the European Union went into this project.
