I would say that Il Fornillo is ok. Nothing was amazing, nothing was bad. Best fish of the for at our table was the spinach ravioli with 4 cheese sauce. That’s not bad, but consider that the other 3 dishes were seafood, and this is a seafood area.

Average food and not great service. Seating was quite cramped as well. I’m surprised at all of the positive reviews, not sure what types of places the other diners are comparing this place to. We went here for dinner on our first night in Positano since we were looking for something casual after a long drive across Italy that day. We were seated quickly at a table that placed me smack against the woman’s chair at the next table. My husband got grilled prawns, which were full on prawns, head and all; he said they tasted good, but wasn’t expecting to have to deal with the head. I got gnocchi, which was fine but not memorable. The service was quite lackadaisical. We had to ask for the wine we ordered, as they had clearly forgotten we ordered it. We also asked for a second bottle of water, but that never came. We also ordered another item that was not brought to us(I forget what that was at this point). Getting the check was another chore. My observation was that each person in the restaurant had a specific role(e.g., serve the food, bring the check), and a lot of inefficiencies resulted. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Great service. Fabulous spinach raviolis with ricotta and spinach smothered in 4 cheese sauce. Yummy! The pasta was so fresh. The service was as beautiful as the view.

My favorite place in Positano. We have eaten here three times in three days every year during our annual trip. Do yourself a favor and go!

My wife and I had an amazing dinner here. Not sure if they take reservations, but lucked out and got a great table on the street front.

We stumbled upon this place walking around. The ambiance was great and the food was delicious. I ordered the fish with orange and lemon sauce and my husband ordered the lobster pasta. Zucchini flowers were delicious too! I would definitely recommend to others.

This place was recommended by our B&B for pizza. The pizza was great and not super expensive like we were anticipating for Positano. We had two pizzas which were huge so we took almost half home for lunch. They were ok with to go because locals order pizzas to take home. I had the Rustichella with smoked cheese. So good. My husband had the margarita style one with buffalo mozzarella which was also pretty tasty. Had a couple beers total was 40 euro with the cover charge of 2 euro. Pretty standard for south of Florence that we have noticed.

Absolutely delicious meal. We ordered Lemon Mussels, vegetable soup, homemade ravioli with a superb 4-cheese sauce, catch of the day in crazy water followed by lemon cake and a ricotta cheesecake with fresh pears. If you like red wine, order a bottle of the Redici Taurasi. Service was excellent and the music was perfect.

My boyfriend and I are from Long Island, staying at a hotel near il fornillo. It was recommended to us by a local man who lives in Positano. From the outside the place looks very quaint and pretty. However, We were pretty disappointed. Portions were small and food was cold. Also, our dishes lacked flavor. Bill came to $ 46(cheap for us New Yorkers). However, we felt it was an overall let down.

We had fantastic food here for dinner. For appetizers we got the pumpkin flower tempura and then the zuppa fagioli. My husband got a local fish and I got the eggplant spaghetti in tomato sauce for our main courses. Finally the tiramisu and espresso. Every single dish was fantastic. The hostess was very friendly and gave us a number of recipes too!

Amazing view — we were able to get a reservation that afternoon through our concierge at Hotel Positea. The food was delicious, as well as the wine and dessert. Will be returning next time we return to Positano!

I really enjoyed our dinner here that was greatly recommended by our concierge at our hotel. We had a sampling of calamari and she’s that were delicious followed by the bolognese and a pizza. All were delicious and beautiful views.

We just spent five days in Positano and this was our worst meal of the trip. We ordered Pizza, Caprese Salad and Chicken with Mushrooms. The Caprese salad had unripe tomatoes. The sausage on the pizza was fatty and unedible and while the Chicken with Mushrooms was inadequate in terms of portion size, it did have a flavorful sauce with a wonderful array of mushrooms. The restaurant itself isn’t much to look at either. Kind of bland. The menu wasn’t too appealing. Lots of pizza options but not much else. We also had about 3 different servers throughout the evening, none of which were attentive. Overall Id’ say given the incredible restaurants in the area, Fornillo’s just didn’t hold a candle.

The fish was so fresh! Every course was satisfying. We had a local white wine, it was as impressive. We tried four desserts and I loved the lemon sorbet and the chocolate ice cream a lot. Make sure to try the local fish

Of the seven restaurants we’ve tried in Positano so far, iL Fornillo was the worst. The service took way too long and they didn’t understand that we had a three year old that needed to be fed. They also didn’t offer an after dinner drink(limoncello for instance) as most other restaurants and the bread they served was skimpy and mediocre. They also overcharged us on the bill which I had to get corrected. All in all, a terrible experience. And the waitress was surly when we ask for Parmesan cheese to put on our pasta.

The food was excellent as expected in Positano. The service not so much. We ordered a bottle of wine, and the courses of our meal. All of the food was delivered at the same time(app, salad, pasta, fish). We ask them to take back some of the food and deliver in courses so it would not get cold. They became offended, unapologetic, and unfriendly. We had to waive them down to them get any response after 30min. They then delivered a check with many extra items we did not order(odd). We asked them to correct and this took a additional 15min. We did not finish the meal, or order desert, but did walk down to another great place just around the bend. Unfortunate experience in a beautiful place. Food was fantastic, can’t deny that. But it is not all about the food, dining experience is equally as important.

One of the best restaurants in Positano. The margherita pizza was so soft. so simple and basic… but oozes with deliciousness on every single bite. Also, the staff is so friendly and accommodating. Another plus side… they open late. Don’t be afraid to ask for suggestions. They’ll be happy to give you recommendations. Buon Appetito!

Margarita and her wonderful staff here at IL Fornillo serve the most amazing food! We were in Positano for a week and ate here twice! Definitely try the mussels! We spent 2 weeks in Italy and feel we had the best pizza ever here! Don’t miss the Lemon-chello at the end!
