DONOTEATHERE!!! We ate here last night mostly because it was recommended by Rick Steves and we usually agree with his picks. This was the worst food and experience. The waiter was outside smoking when we were waiting to order. We sat outside and were the first diners. We ordered wine and a bruschetta to share. We ordered one and the waiter brought 2. The salads came and one was just arugula and some unappetizing non ripe tomatoes. The other came as chopped red cabbage with a few walnuts and a few slices of hard tasteless pear. The waiter brought a basket with olive oil and an almost empty Bottle of balsamic vinegar which he soon took away to another table. Each salad was from $ 10 – 12 and not worth it! The worst part was the sea bass. My friend and I split it putting half on her plate. She took one bite a said it was spoiled so I tried it and it tasted rotten. We asked The waiter to take it back but He and the«owner«said we had eaten some of it already. We argued and paid The bill but refused to pay for the spoiled fish. They both chased us down the street demanding we pay for the fish and blocked our path from moving! It was horrible and like nothing I’ve experienced in my 40 years of traveling all over the world! Do not ever eat here!!! Rick Steves needs to remove this from his guide book!/

My favorite enoteca! Great food ! Try the pasta with rabbit. All types of wonderful choices«little plates«at the bar. Excellent wine choices at inexpensive prices. The restaurant is stunning and romantic. A must stop.

It was fun to compare this ancient place to the Cavour. Very different vibe. This is an old, historic place and it feels like it. Dusty, rustic, wine barrels… almost a cliché of an Italian enoteca, but this is quite real. As others noted, it is not a tourist trap. My friend and I were the only non Romans here, and we were given a very nice table near a large and boisterous group of Roman friends having what appeared to be the time of their lives. While tempted to ask our burly gruff waiter«I’ll have what their having,» we bombarded him with wine questions until he sent over the younger hipster dude who helped us out. We ended up with a fantastic barolo that was almost obscenely under-priced(this ever happens in the states… ever). I had a basic but very nice salad and a seafood dish… cod I think, that was simple and rustic and just perfect in that Roman way. If there was any touristy kitsch going on, I didn’t notice it.

Located near Piazza Espagna, l’Enoteca Antica is a great place to catch your breath after shopping and sight-seeing in Roma. The bar is rustic and you are surrounded by frescos. My go-to spot in Rome for a glass of wine. This is a fun place to relax with friends. The wine menu is ever-changing and features fabulous Italian wines. Traditional Roman food is also served at a reasonable price. Everyone loves their pizzas.

It is not the restaurant’s fault that it’s on a tourist trodden street and tourists eat there, right in the midst of locals. It is not a tourist trap. Food is solid good. Happened to eat there twice. Excellent steak with side of roasted potatoes, good tortellini with mushrooms, super fresh and moist filet of sea bass, very good tiramisu(way better than less than«best tiramisu in Rome» from Pompi). And selection of wine by glass… well, just order their Barolo. The place is intimate, romantic, but when we came late with a kid we were accommodated with no problem. It is clean. Ok, the service is a bit brisk, just don’t be too fussy and demanding, and you will be treated just like any other local. I’d rather have good food served efficiently, then a mediocre food and drink not improved by obsequious smiles.

Nice restaurant that a friend had recommended… and happened to be feet from our hotel. They had tables outside and the weather was perfect last night so we dined al fresco. Had the prosciutto and fresh moz crostini which was great. The prosciutto was shaved so thin it was tranlucent. For dinner, my husband got a pizza and I had a zucchini stuffed ravioli in a blush sauce. The pizza had the thinnest crust on a pizza I’ve ever had, and the ravioli were delicious. Would recommend.

This place is recommended by Rick Steves, but he obviously has not been by in 2015, and like many of his recommendations it has morphed into something more tourist oriented. You can tell from the other reviews that the menu used to be more interesting, more local, and less expensive in a place with a lot of ambience. Now they serve«Italian» dishes normally not found in Italy for much higher prices with the ambience missing because everyone is a tourist… Disappointing.

Based on 2002 and 2004 experience: one of the greatest genuine enotecas you can visit.

We are staying in an apartment near the Piazza Espagna. Tonight we went down the street to eat a light dinner at Antica Enoteca. We had eaten there last spring and thought it was okay. We sat quite a while reviewing the menu during which time the table behind us, which was seated after us, was taken care of promptly. They had a different server. When our server finally came, we ordered two antipasti and one of the daily specials which was Zuppa de Verdure(basically vegetable soup). When the antipasti arrived the server forgot to bring oil and vinegar. We waited again. We couldn’t catch the eye of the manager or the server. Eventually we did and happily ate our first dish. Forty-five minutes later we still hadn’t been served the soup. Soup! If we had ordered an entre that had to be made when ordered, I would have understood. But not soup. Again we tried

Don’t eat here! The inside seems a bit dark and dirty. Only decided on this spot because they had some selections of salads. Bad idea! A huge flying ant-like creature flew outta my salad upon arrival. When I told one of the server’s he said it was an olive– haha! Look again buddy. They sent it back and offered something on the house which I thought was nice but totally grossed out to eat.

Unbelievable wine bar, the vibe and people were amazing. The barolo and pinto nero were both fantastic, nero davolo was tasty as well. Quattro fromaggi was kick ass as well. We’ll be back as soon as possible!

The ideal place to eat and drink as a tourist but by no means a tourist trap. My wife and I ate here twice on our trip to Italy last year during the holidays/New Year. Frequented by plenty of locals, The food was great and the wine selection is excellent. You can sample all kinds of Italian wines with or without a meal and purchase bottles to go at regular wine shop prices. One of our favorites was a Cesanese Del Piglio Superior DOCG by Casale Della Ioria, one of the few Lazio region wines. Not only could we not find it anywhere else in Italy, we couldn’t even find it anywhere else in Rome! Needless to say, we took three bottles for the road :)

This was our go-to solid cheap eatery. We’ve eaten here every time we visit Rome and never been disappointed. The pizza is pretty amazing and their antipasta’s are top notch. Additionally, they have a solid wine list by the glass and bottle(where else can you get a Barolo by the glass that doesn’t kill your wallet??) The kitchen is open later here than most so late night munchies can be fed here too.

Popular, but cheap plastic chairs. Had the rigatoni carbonara and gnocchi, with house wine. Food was good and the service was acceptable. There are lots of restaurants in the area to choose from, they are all pretty good. We liked this one because they also have tables sent in a small street off the«main» street.

In contrast with the other reviews, I did not find the food here to be very good at all. I had Bagolini with duck sauce(al’anatra) and there was no duck to be found in the sauce as far as I could discern. My son had the gnocchi which did not appear to be too bad but he did not rave about it. We ordered the veal as the second plate, and it arrived sliced way too thin and way overdone — clearly delivered off a steam table. What a crime against veal. That being said, the atmosphere is terrific, although cars and scooters drive right by the end of the tables outside. The wait staff were quite friendly and did attempt to apologize for the food quality, including a gratis limoncello, but all in all, not a place I would seek out again for food. Atmosphere? Yes Drinks? Yes. Lunch might well be better.

A delightful restaurant near the Spanish steps. Many Italians appear to frequent during the lunch hours, so a nice mix of tourists and locals. The anti-pasta selection makes a great starter for two, or even a decent snack with a glass of wine if you’re feeling peckish. The service is friendly and very quick. There’s free wifi and a very relaxed atmosphere.

Love this little place… you cant quite call it a hole in the wall… I mean it is off of one of Rome’s most famous streets. However, it has the decadent charm of Napoleon House. Wines are good, plentiful and reasonably priced.

When I visit a new city, I, like most, prefer to visit places the locals do. I want to go somewhere that has fresh, real, authentic food. I want some place indicative of the lifestyle. I want to be immersed in a culture — enveloped by its sounds, tastes, sights, and smells. You might not necessarily expect that from this enoteca, given its location just off the Spanish steps and busy, famous shopping street of Via Condotti; however, you’ll find yourself sharing the space with many Romans stopping in for a glass of wine or light bite. It’s the perfect way to take that needed afternoon break, between shopping and sightseeing! The location is ideal for people watching. The side street of Via della Croce is bustling with people and motorini. It’s exactly what you expect when you come to Rome. While the inside is beautiful with dark, wooden tables and a horseshoe-shaped bar that feels intimate and cozy, the outside is the place to really enjoy all the city has to offer. There are only a few tables outside, so if you pass by and are fortunate enough to see an empty one, I recommend sitting down as quickly as possible! The wait staff is friendly and prompt. The wine list is extensive. Not necessarily as inexpensive as other places, but you pay for the location and ambiance. Add to that a sampler plate of local meats, cheeses, and olives and you have the perfect afternoon snack. You’ll be surprised how long you can sit here and just watch the world go by. They always say life is a little bit slower in Italy, and you’ll see why once you sit down at Antica Enoteca. You’ll soon appreciate why so many Italians enjoy the simple things in life that happen all around them! Salute!
