Basilica di San Pietro

There have been exactly two moments in my history of traveling that I’ve been absolutely awestruck into silence and reverence. The very first of these experiences took place at Saint Peter’s Basilica. The moment that I stepped foot into this gorgeous, unbelievable feat of architecture and art I was completely taken aback. Of course I knew that it would be impressive and beautiful, but I could have never in my wildest dreams fathomed how the light would filter through the rose window into the alter and the congregation. I could have never imagined the vastness of the interior and the painstaking attention to every last detail inside of this place. If you think a photo can do this place justice you’re dead wrong. Nothing compares to walking into the basilica and seeing first hand the majesty that human hands managed to create within it.
I highly, highly suggest taking a trip up to the roof of the dome. You absolutely won’t regret it as long as you aren’t claustrophobic as the hall and stairways get incredibly cramped and begin to slant the farther you go up. We actually just made it to the top before they had to shut the stairway down because someone had a panic attack. I assure you I am not the kind of person who likes to squeeze into small spaces and I didn’t find it too difficult to get to the top. Once you reach the roof you will be among the statues of the many saints, the size of which will leave you absolutely dumbfounded. You will have an immense and amazing view of the promenade which is so, so worth the climb.
If you travel to Rome, even if you aren’t Catholic, a trip to Saint Peter’s Basilica is definitely worth it if even just to see the beautiful artwork and architecture. It will blow you away.

As one of the largest churches in the world, you definitely can’t miss a chance to visit St. Peter’s when in Rome. I felt so overwhelmed as I stepped into the church because of the insane level of detail in every inch of the building.
Be sure to stop to snap a picture of Michelangelo’s Pieta near the entrance. If you’re a registered member of the Catholic church, I believe you can step inside one of the side altars to pray; the many well-​dressed security guards will bar other tourists from entering the altars and taking pictures to ensure privacy.
The trek up to the top of the dome at St. Peters is worth it for the fantastic view of the Vatican City. Just below the dome, there is a rest stop area with restrooms and a souvenir shop. Consider sending a postcard from the post office here because it’s cheap and you get a cool Vatican City stamp on it. For sending to another European country, it is 1 Euro. For sending to the U.S., it’s 2 Euros.
My true rating for St. Peters is actually 4.5 stars. While the church is absolutely beautiful and and a must-​see, I feel that the large amount of traffic that goes through the church takes away from the experience. Especially near Michelangelo’s Pieta and the sanctuary, tourists move around the church like sardines and the dome shaped architecture of the building amplifies the chatter and footsteps until St. Peters ends up sounding more like a marketplace than a place of worship. If all that bothers you, definitely consider coming to St. Peters right when it opens (and remember to take into account how long it would take to get through Vatican security).

I visited this for the second time the other day. I had been maybe 15 years ago. I love the interior of this church and the tombs of popes or other important people. I love seeing the Pieta. My parents and I went to the top of the dome! That is an incredible experience. It can be a bit scary getting to the top, but it’s worth it! You can see awesome views of Rome from the top. It’s free to get into the basilica, but there’s a long wait of about an hour. We snuck into a different line and got in pretty quick though.

Moving… Magnificent… Massive… St. Peter’s Basilica is one of the four Major Basilicas of Rome. Although it takes a backseat to the Archbasilica of St. John in the Lateran as the official seat of the Pope, St. Peter’s is one of the holiest churches in all of the Catholic world. It is the only one within the sovereign state of the Vatican and it was built where St. Peter, the first Pope, was buried. Entrance to the basilica is free, but everyone has to go through airport-​type security and strict dress code. Bare shoulders and knees are prohibited.
The floor plan of the basilica was shaped like a cross and as we walked into the nave on that late afternoon, the first sight of sunlight entering the dome was beyond beautiful (
). It was surely one of those «just breathe» moments. Rays of light passing through the high dome windows and reaching almost the back section of this vast church was so inspiring. I deeply believe that anyone, even people of different (or no) faith, will find this powerful image absolutely moving. As the sun continued to set, the rays reached different areas of the interior.
Right atop the altar was this colossal bronze baldachin or canopy (
). The size was impressive and so was the design. Directly underneath it lay St. Peter’s tomb. The tall dome above was wonderfully adorned mostly in blue and gold (
). Its entrance was already closed when we were there so we did not get the chance to check it out. On the right-​hand side when we entered the church gathered a large crowd, all wanting to get a good view of the Pietà, the sculpture of Christ’s dead body cradled by the Blessed Virgin. It is now enclosed in glass after a vandalism incident in the early 70s.
Equally remarkable was the exterior with St. Peter’s dome as the focal point of the structure (
). Climb any high place in Rome and the dome can be easily spotted. The façade was characterized by these enormous columns while the top was decked with statues of saints.
St. Peter’s Basilica is a place of worship and is of immense religious importance. It is a must see for believers and non-​believers alike because it contains an enormous amount of historical and architectural significance. Great artists and architects like Michelangelo, Bernini, Maderno, and Bramante have contributed in making this one of the best highlights of the Renaissance period.

Absolutely astonishing in every sense of the word. The size and magesty of this place is overwhelming. In a city like Rome where around every corner is a magnificent sight, this place takes it up even a notch further. The capper (no pun intended) is the Dome designed by Michealangelo! Be sure to take the tour that leads you to the top outside! What a view!

Catholics, you’ve been holding out on us. Protestants (especially those of us in the US south) are well are aware of all the fantastic holy sites to see in Rome/​Vatican City but weren’t told to put St. Peter’s at the top of the list of ‘must sees.’ Well, let me make this personal. I was aware. I’d heard of St. Peter’s but it didn’t have the cache that other sites did. No one told me to see it before I saw anything else in Rome. I figured I’d see it since I was in the area.
Oh my God. Literally.
I had no idea. This. This was the transformative experience I was hoping for. I am so glad to have been able to experience it and write about it – since giving the Sistine Chapel less than 5 stars made me concerned about walking outside during rainstorms. If you have a Sistine experience similar to mine, keep it moving to St. Peter’s. It will change everything and right your course. It’s glorious.*
I came on a Wednesday** in early fall and despite reading a schedule that said the Basilica wouldn’t be open until 3, I (along with many many others) waltzed right in. This was eased because I’d read Dara M’s review and knew which exit to exit from the Sistine Chapel. This deposited me on to some steps which led directly into the Basilica. There would be no waiting in line for me – after trudging through hours of lines in the museum. There’s no cost to enter the Basilica but you will wait if you don’t approach the experience like a boss. Wait. I lied. There is a cost associated with going to the top/​dome but ain’t no one got time for that. There are plenty of marvels to behold on earth. Walk through the doors and keep it moving. And, moved you will be. I felt like I was walking into a holy palace. The ceilings are enormous. The reliefs are spectacular. The statues are like something out of a sci-​fi movie (I hope that doesn’t come across wrong). Awesome. You’ve heard the word. You’ve used it. But you don’t truly get to understand it with every fiber of your being without being in a place such as this. St. Peter’s is a complete game changer and — in my opinion — is a better, more worthwhile site to see than the Sistine Chapel. I know. It feels weird to write that. But, I think, it’s the truth. Due to its size, I never once felt crowded. I was never pushed, shushed, rushed, or infringed upon by others taking pictures. In fact, despite the crowds, I had a rather personal and intimate experience. It’s an odd thing to say, given the sheer enormity of the building but scope, size and perspective all changes once entering upon those doors. It’s a sensation I, at once, understood and long/​hop for at the end of this journey. It really feels like you’re entering heaven. I had goosebumps. I shook a bit. I prayed. I sang (hymns and to myself) St. Peter’s is life-​changing.
*The Square, too, is quite impressive.
** Despite the day, there were no Pope sightings. :(

Imponente. Casi que abruma. Bah, sí. Abruma. Es ENORME. Y perfecta. Y divina. Y qué me importa el costado religioso (bah, en realidad lo odio y odio que haya tanta opulencia en la religión y tanto oro y cuadros y miles de millones de dólares, pero eso no quita que el edificio sea un 10)
Es un doce, un 100, un 1000. De las construcciones más hermosas que vi en mi vida.
Los altares, las paredes, las columnas, la entrada, todo. Todo es asldkajsldkajsdlkasjd. No puo creer que algo así exista. Pero hay que verlo, sin dudas.

Truly worth visiting and spending at least a day touring. There’s much more to do than simply visiting the Church, praying, and seeing all of the artwork, the sculptures, and everything inside the Basilica of St. Peter’s. Let’s begin with the outside.
If you walk over toward the right-​hand arches that are the arms of the Church waiting to embrace you, and look down, you’ll find a stone that is a different color than the rest. It has the insignia of Pope John Paul II, and a date written in Roman numerals on it. The stone marks the very spot where Pope John Paul II was shot. The date on the stone is the date he was shot. Most people walk over it without realizing what it is.
Now, for the inside. English tours of the Basilica are offered for free most days by seminarians from the nearby North American College. Inquire about the tour schedule; it’s worth having things explained, otherwise you won’t know what you’re looking at.
Inside the doors, on your right, you’ll want to spend time enjoying Michelangelo’s masterpiece, The Pieta. Further along the right-​hand side, you can spend time praying in the Eucharistic Adoration chapel, and see how many Popes you can find buried inside the Basilica.
If you plan way ahead (months), you can take advantage of the incredible Scavi tour, that takes you beneath the Basilica, to ancient Rome, where they buried the Christians. There, you can see where Peter’s remains were found, just below the main altar of the Basilica. It’s the one thing I still long to do, but haven’t yet been able to. There is a cost, and as I said it books months ahead of time. Look it up online to make the reservations.
Also, if you have time and stamina, you can take the Cupola tour. Be prepared to climb stairs, stairs, and more stairs… but it is so worth it. You’ll get some amazing views both of Rome (when you’re outside on the roof), inside the dome, and inside the Basilica up in the top.
I could go to Rome and St. Peter’s again and again and never be bored. There’s that much to see and learn.

No matter if you are catholic, agnostic, or atheist, St. Peter’s cathedral is a MUST on your tour of Roma. The art, architecture, and history are second to none, and may even leave you feeling spiritual if you are open to it.
Stop by Vatican City and take it all in. It’s easy on the wallet and nourishing on the soul.

So beautiful and so much to see.
If you’re visiting the Vatican, you will definitely want to visit St. Peters Basilica as well. They are right beside each other. Admission is free but depending on when you come, you may have to wait in a very long line to get in. It can get a bit rough, especially if you come during the Summer. If you want to skip the long line and waiting in the heat, visit the Vatican first (go with a tour group). If you’re with a tour group, you will skip having to wait in any lines and go straight into the Basilica after your tour of the Vatican.
Such beautiful artwork and attention to detail everywhere you look. Don’t forget to check out Michelangelo’s Pietà. The famous work of art depicts the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother Mary after the Crucifixion.

Beautiful spot and a must when in the area to climb the steps up to the very top Cupola and get a birds eye view of the city below.

You’re in the Pope’s house! So, only part of the Basicilia the public can access. The architecture is just gorgeous, and though I am not religious at all, something just comes over you once you enter this historic church.
You can see the changing of the Swiss Guards too at 5:00 and get a breathtaking view of St. Peter’s Square too.

Das Zentrum der katholischen Kirche
Der Petersdom im Vatikan ist die größte christliche Kirche, seine Ausmaße betragen 212m Länge, 138m Breite und eine Höhe von 133m, im seinem Inneren sollen ca. 60.000 Personen Platz finden. Er ist dem ersten Jünger und Apostel Petrus geweiht und der Hauptsitz des Papstes.
Um die sehenswerten Stellen wie Michelangelos Pietà, den Taufbrunnen oder die große Kuppel in Ruhe zu betrachten, empfiehlt es sich früh zeitig an zu reisen. An sonst versinkt die ganze Pracht in den Massen der Besucher.
Für mich war es der dritte Besuch des Vatikans mit Museum, Sixtinischer Kapelle und dem Petersdom und es hat mich immer noch fasziniert. Es ist eben ein ganz besonderer Ort.

Quelle merveille, sans aucun doute une des plus belles basilique de Rome. Grandiose, immense sont les adjectifs qui viennent lorsque l on rentre à l intérieur. Il faut absolument la visiter

A must see in Rome. Don’t be discouraged by the lines — they go by quite quickly. Alternatively come in an hour or two after noon — the lines will be FAR shorter. The Basilica itself is free, but it’s well worth paying ⁵⁄₇ euro for the dome visit. Be prepared for a long, stuffy walk, though!

My husband and I passed through this place while on our Italian dream trafalgar tour. I never thought I would be interested in visiting a basilica. However, just to see the architectural designs in this place is worth while.
The crowds are large and it is quite difficult to actually enjoy the atmosphere when you are fighting through the sea of people but you will manage.
Make sure you watch your bags and children if you are traveling with kids as this is a very easy place to get pick pocketed and lost.

First of all the line goes fast but try to make it in the afternoon, at least after 11AM that way you will avoid the Cruise ship crowed.
Free entry if you happen to come here in the morning instead of going to the museum go here first and then museum.

Ein muss wenn man in Rom ist .
Wir waren ca. um 12 Uhr am Petersdom die Warte schlanke war sehr lang aber es dauerte da nur 30 min bis wir drin waren .
Wir haben eine deutsch Führung gebucht nur für die Kirche 1 Stunde 15 Euro (mit Roma City pass 10 €) es war interessant .
Die Kuppel haben wir auch besichtigt ohne Führung (die sollte 25 € kosten und an den Warteschlangen vorbei) .
Nach den Warteschlangen ca 30 min zahlten wir 6 € für den Fußmarsch mit dem Fahrstuhl 8 € aber der fährt auch nicht komplett nach oben .
Insgesamt sollen es 320 Stufen sein, mit lieft würde ich sagen nur noch 160 Stufen.

Magnifique.
Je voulais absolument admirer le baldaquin du Bernin mais hélas nous étions un peu loin.
La coupole est à faire, particulièrement pour la vue de Rome à la sortie dans la lanterne.
Nous avons payés plus cher pour l’ascenseur, tout en sachant qu’il restera environ 250 marchés pour atteindre la lanterne ! À travers un corridor assez étroit !
Mais la montée vaut le coup.

After visiting the Duomo it is hard to imagine a basilica that could more impressive but St. Peter’s dwarfs that location. Nearly 100 feet taller and filled with side chapels and shrines, St. Peter’s is truly impressive.
Addmission to the church is free, however you do need to wait on line and pass through a screening where your apparel is deemed appropriate or not. If you wish to climb to the cupola there is a separate line with a charge.
The line moved quickly despite its length in we were able to enter within 45 minutes.
A no brainer to visit if you happened to be at the Vatican Museum.

The largest church in the world and also the most beautiful. It’s a little unnecessary to have such a huge magnificent church… But it’s a site to see! And you don’t have to pay to get in…
However don’t wear a short skirt or sleeveless shirt… And no hats people!!! The security guards will turn you away if you do not show due respect.

Wer das Anstehen und die überzogenen Preise der Händler vermeiden möchte (41 €), der kann (so wie wir) gegen 15/15.30 direkt zur Kasse gehen, den offiziellen Preis von 16 € zahlen und kann sich dann frei bewegen, da man es sowieso nicht schafft alles zu erfassen-​ebenso wie beim Louvre –sind 3 Stunden voll ausreichend. Um zur Kuppel zu gelangen gibt es die Möglichkeit mit/​ohne Lift hoch zukommen (7 €/​5 €)obwohl das letzte Stück sowieso nur zu Fuß erreichbar ist. auf jeden Fall sehenswert genauso das Pantheon

Wow, this place is amazing and free! Totally reminds me of Assassins creed with Ezio.
Totally worth going up the cupola /​dome, the view is amazing, the stairs are a wide I got a little dizzy, but so worth it!
The mosaics in the dome are so detailed, the view inside is so cool, then the view outside of St. Peter’s square is amazing!
Recommend climbing up the spiral stairs around the dome to get to the very top, these are scary, but man the view!
Would totally come back, highly recommended!

I have four words for this place: In. Cred. I. Ble.
St. Peter’s Basilica is absolutely breathtaking. Designed in part by Michelangelo, it’s one of the two largest churches in the world, and every single surface is covered in something beautiful.
If you’re visiting the Vatican Museum, go there first, and then exit the Sistine Chapel through the group exit, and you’ll find yourself dumped directly into St. Peter’s without having to wait in what can be a really long line. (There’s no admission fee, just the line, unless you want to go up to the dome, which is € 7.)
Make sure your shoulders and knees are covered (a scarf is a good solution to the shoulder issue if the weather is warm).
Give yourself plenty of time to take in all the details – there’s so, so much. Once you’ve toured the Basilica, head down to the Vatican grotto below, where St. Peter is purported to be buried, along with something like 100 other popes, etc. It’s much more pared down, but still really beautiful down there.

Must see in Rome!
We arrived here around 8am on Sunday and the queue was short. Within 10 mins we were inside the church. After the security (metal detector like an airport), they have several staff checking on your clothes. I had my long sleeve jacket and semi long dress on me and they seemed to be fine with my clothes. Some people with shorts and tank tops were turned away. I saw several women wearing scarf to cover their arms and seems nice especially when it’s hot.
By 9am, queue was very long, by 10am queue was insane.
I highly recommend to pay £7,00 to go up to the dorm to see the church from the top. Once you are there, you can take about 200 steps to the top of the dorm ceiling. Very narrow stairways, I had to control my mind as I don’t like narrow space. Some people had to stop to catch breath and I saw many SOS buttons to call for help while going up the stairs. Highly worth the trip as the view from the top is magnificent.
They have a small post office. I bought a post card and a stamp to mail a card to myself. They will stamp with the City of Vatican and this is the only place you get to have the postmark. I thought that will make a nice souvenir for myself.
Coming here early in the morning made so much difference in my experience. Highly recommend!

The line to enter the basilica was so long that we thought it would take us at least 2 hours to get inside. Luckily, the lines moved quickly and within an hour, we were entering THE MOST gorgeous structure that we had EVER seen — Basilica di San Pietro. Just before entering the basilica, there is a benign security check.
As we entered this colossal basilica, there were camera lights intensely flashing at La Pieta, the world-​famous Renaissance sculpture done by Michelangelo himself.
And then we walked around the entire basilica, gaping and admiring every statue and painting. Never seen something SO extravagant. It was hard to believe the insurmountable amount of talent that existed in these legends.
It took us about 1.5 hours to leisurely enjoy the architectural marvels. The basilica also hosts grottoes of several popes; entrance to St. Peter’s tomb is always flooded with people capturing pictures, reading the informational placards and simply sinking in the profound history.
Just near the basilica entrance is the line to go to the cupola (dome). For 7 EUROS, one can take the elevator to the roof, where there are restrooms, gift shop, water fountain. There is a Square from which one can get a beautiful and closer view of the dome. The large statues nearby are also well-​worthy of the visit. One can also access the gallery inside the dome to look down into the basilica.
From the roof, we had to climb 320 steps, through a narrow and sinuous stairway to reach the cupola. There is no elevator that takes you from the roof to the cupola. A breathtaking view awaited us on the top.
I don’t think I’ll do a great job in explaining how mind-​boggling it was. I could go on and on and on, but no adjectives in the English dictionary will do any justice to how beautiful the Basilica di San Pietro and the view from the cupola are.
Few things to consider before climbing to the cupola:
— You need to climb 320 stairs from the roof to the cupola; there is an elevator that takes you to the roof, but no elevator from the roof to the cupola
— The staircase is very narrow and winding in a few places; made my head spin a few times
— Bring lots of water with you, or fill up your water bottles using the water fountains on the roof

Wirklich zu empfehlen, aber kommt ganz früh am Morgen! Später wird der Andrang zu hoch, das Warten zu lang und dieser riesige Dom wirkt menschenleer einfach besser!
Der Eintritt ist umsonst, lediglich wenn man auf die Kuppel will muss man 5 € bezahlen! Dafür läuft man 551 Stufen nach oben, die im letzteren Teil auch echt beschwerlich werden, grundsätzlich ist das für unsportliche Leute eher eine schwierige Angelegenheit, die sich aber wirklich lohnt.
Notfalls findet man mittig eine Plattform mit Toiletten, Snack– & Touri-​Shop für die kleine Pause zwischendurch. Von der Plattform kommt man ganz nah an die Figuren von Christus und seinen Jüngern.
Hat man es dann aber bis ganz oben geschafft, dann hat man einen Traumhaften Blick über Rom! Unbeschreiblich und wunderschön!!! Und wenn früh morgens noch nicht viele Besucher da sind, dann kann man dort echt kurz rasten und den Blick auf sich wirken lassen!!!
Der Dom selber ist natürlich auch beeindruckend und sehr schön! Beim nächsten Besuch sind dann auch die Katakomben fällig…

Keine Frage — hier muss man gewesen sein. Die schiere Größe erschlägt zweimal. Das erste Mal beim Hineingehen («Boah, ist das groß”(, dann aber, wenn man sich mal den Vergleich vergegenwärtigt, dass eine der Säulen (!), die die Kuppel tragen, die gleiche Grundfläche wie eine kleine Kirche in Rom haben.
Da der Eintritt nicht unverschämt teuer ist, nur zu Empfehlen. Für mich hat sich ein Besuch der Kuppel auch gelohnt. Für 5 Euro geht es zu Fuß 500 Stufen in die Höhe, zu einem wunderbaren Ausblick. Man kann auch einen Fahrstuhl für € 2 mehr nehmen, aber der fährt auch nur einen Teil der Strecke.

splendide, gigantesque, prenant. Une file d’attente qui fait le tour de la place aux heures de pointe (14h) mais qui va très vite ! Je vous conseille quand même pour l’éviter d’y venir après 16h. Lieu impressionnant. Je vous conseille de monter à la coupole car splendide mosaique et de continuer vers le dome car la vue y est magnifique. Il y a des toilettes à la coupole, un bar, une boutique de souvenirs, fontaines et boîte postale. Le chemin pour le dome est tortueux et meme si vous etes claustro vous pouvez vous arretez de temps a temps devant les fenetres. Ce n’est pas long à monter.

Ein Muss für jeden Rom Besuch. Die Größe ist wirklich sehr beeindruckend
Allerdings dauert es einige Zeit bis man es in dem Petersdom schafft. Aufgrund der Sicherheitskontrollen haben wir heute nachmittag eine knappe Stunde gewartet. Dafür mussten wir für die Kuppel (5 Euro für die Treppe bzw 7 Euro für die Hälfte Fahrstuhl und den Rest Treppe) nicht anstehen. Und der Blick ist ebenfalls grandios.

Située à l’ouest de la ville, la basilique Saint Pierre du Vatican fait partie des monuments les plus visités dans le monde et en tant qu’édifice religieux fondamental du christianisme, est l’objet d’un important pèlerinage chaque année.
Accessible depuis la place Saint Pierre, c’est totalement gratuit excepté pour la coupole qui elle coûte 7 € et permets d’en voir les deux niveaux, le premier par ascenseur, le second à pied. Au sommet, la vue est saisissante sur le Vatican et une partie de la ville romaine.
Parmi les oeuvres les plus célèbres à né pas manquer, on trouve l’immense baldaquin en bronze du Bernin, établie comme étant la plus haute sculpture qui existe. On croise aussi la statue de saint Pierre et la Pietà de Michel-​Ange. Il est également possible de traverser les grottes vaticanes ou reposent dans une crypte, de nombreux papes dont Jean Paul II.

Wie man auch zum Papstum stehen mag, der St. Peters Dom ist ein beeindruckendes Bauerwerk und sollte bei keinem Rombesuch fehlen.
Unbedingt genügend Speicherkarten für die Digicam mitbringen, ich sag nur VIEL PRUNK!
TIPP:
Man muss lange anstehen und sollte deshalb möglichst früh vor Ort sein bzw. ausreichend Zeit einplanen.

Ahoooou les Unilocaleurs, faîtes péter le chammmmmp’, c’est mon 300e avis !!!
Côté nian-​nian: 3 fois que j’y vais et 3 fois que je suis carrément éblouie par sa beauté. De l’extérieur c’est vraiment magique: sur la place, tous les touristes ont les yeux rivés sur elle.
Quand on rentre, on se sent tout petit, on se demande comment les hommes ont pu construire quelque chose de siiiiii grand ! C’est éblouissant !
Côté pratique, l’entrée est gratuite. J’y suis allée fin août, vers 13h, la file d’attente était vraiment imposante. Mais ça avance très vite (le temps de prendre quelques photos et de lire votre Routard héhé), puisqu’ils né font que vérifier vos sacs comme à l’aéroport.
Par contre, même s’il crève de chaud à Rome c’est jupe en dessous du genou, pas de short, et pas d’épaule découverte. Ils sont vraiment intransigeants et j’ai vu beaucoup de gens qui n’ont pas pu rentrer à cause de ça.
Côté utile, c’est la plus grand basilique du monde et sur le sol au centre, vous verrez les longueurs des autres basiliques (comme Notre-​Dame-​de-​Paris) prouvant bien qu’elles sont toutes plus petites !
De plus, en rentrant, allez à droite, vous y trouverez la Pietà de Michel-​Ange protégée par une vitre depuis qu’un fou lui a cassé la main à coups de marteau (il faut de tout pour faire un monde …).
Bref, c’est à né SURTOUT pas louper, c’est vraiment dingue.
PS: n’oubliez pas de visiter les souterrains, gratuits également. Vous pouvez y accéder au bout à gauche en descendant les escaliers.
PS2: né manquez pas de prendre en photo les gardes du Vatican en sortant de la basilique. De plus, si vous venez avec des enfants, ils auront peut-​être le privilège d’avoir le droit de poser avec eux ;).

Après une grosse matinée (jusque 14h environ) passée dans l’enceinte du Vatican, filez vers la place Saint-​Pierre pour prendre un peu de hauteur en gravissant les nombreuses marches menant à la coupole de sa basilique.
Option 1, pour 5 €, les marches.
Option 2, pour 7 €, ascenseur + marches.
Première étape: l’intérieur de la coupole. Avec un peu de chance, alors que vous né saurez plus où porter le regard entre les peintures, la mosaïque couvrant l’ensemble des arceaux et la vue plongeante sur la nef, vous entendrez les chants de la messe qui se déroule juste sous vos pieds.
Deuxième étape l’arceau extérieur tout en haute de la coupole: une vue à 360° sur Rome. C’est sublime, vous né vous lasserez pas de la vue de la place Saint-​Pierre en forme de serrure s’ouvrant sur la ville et ses principaux monuments ! Une visite à pas manquer. L’occasion de prendre une pause pendant votre visite de la capitale italienne pour la contempler !

Überwältigend diese PrachtAuch wer nichts mit der kath. Kirche am Hut hat wird sprachlos wenn er diese Kunstschätze sieht, einfach ein must see, wenn man in Rom ist.

Quel magnifique bâtiment que la basilique St Pierre appelé Basilica San Pietro par les italiens. Le Vatican est un endroit obligatoire lorsque l’on est de passage à Rome! Pour ceux qui né le savent pas le Vatican né fait pas partit de l’Italie, c’est un État à lui tout seul un tout petit État. Le passage de la place St Pierre est déjà exceptionnel cette place est magnifique. Avec toutes ses lumières elle est bien plus belle de nuit que de jour.
Ensuite nos yeux se posent sur autre chose d’encore plus magnifique: la basilique st Pierre. L’architecture est spectaculaire. Si mes informations sont bonnes il s’agit de la basilique la plus grande au monde et on en prends plein la vie dès le début. L’entrée est gratuite mais après pour visiter certains endroits il faut prévoir de l’argent! La coupole c’est un petit peu moins de 10E mais perso je trouve que ça les vaut vraiment. Arrivez à la fin de cette dernière visite vous aurez une vue majestueuse sur toute la ville.
On peut admirer les costumes anciens et bien conservés des gardes suisses qui prennent leurs rôles vraiment très au sérieux je dirai. J’ai bien failli frôler l’arrestation pour avoir osé prendre des photos à l’intérieur de la Basilique donc tant pis pour les photos souvenirs il faudra se contenter des photos de la place et de la basilique vu de l’extérieur. Étant en ce moment et pendant plusieurs moi en train de faire un petit tour européen seule j’ai toujours ma bombe lacrymogèné sur moi et lorsqu’elle est tombée par terre alors là j’ai carrément frôlé la mort!!! Donc petit conseil évitez tout objet de défense et laissez les appareils photos et portables dans vos poches!!! En dehors de ça que des points positifs de cette visite.
Un autre conseil venez très tôt dans la matinée vous réduirai le temps d’attente et de queue d’au moins 1h. La légende veut que Michel-​Ange veille sur le pape et sur la sérénité du lieux. Si l’on veut avoir une chance de voir le pape et d’assister à la messe du mercredi matin en sa présence il faut réserver ses place à l’avance.
Un moment génial et obligatoire…

accessible bcp de monde mais ca defile vite. magnifique tant exterieur qu’intérieur. compter au moins trois heures voire demie journée.
vous y croiserez entre autre, les fameux gardes Suisses, et pourrez choisir et écrire vos cartes postales pour les mettre directement à la poste du vatican.

Die spektakuläre, über 130 Meter hohe Kuppel des Doms hat
eine majestätische Dominanz. Die Kuppel wurde ja von Michelangelo entworfen,
ihre Fertigstellung erlebte er aber nicht mehr. Ein Blick von der Kuppel, wenn
man endlich mal oben ist, ist atemberaubend. Die perfekte Symmetrie der
Berninis Kolonnaden bewundert man am besten von dieser Kuppel. Es ist für mich
ein unbedingtes Muss bei jedem Rom Besuch. Es wurde ja in verschiedenen
Beiträge geschrieben: Früh aus den Betten, dann sind die Wartezeiten relative
kurz. Ab 10.00 Uhr am besten Essen und Trinken mitbringen, es kann auch mal
einen halben Tag dauern, bis man endlich oben ist. Der eigentlich Dom ist auch
toll, vor allem die historischen Gegebenheiten, aber im Kleinen kann man das
natürlich auch in anderen Gotteshäusern sehen, nicht so groß aber fast so
schön.

Au Man! Wenn man es erst einmal geschafft hat hineinzukommen, so ist man selbst als Atheist beeindruckt von dieser Größe und dem Mammon!
Eine gewaltige Bauleistung die auf den Knochen von Leuten erstanden ist, die in der Mehrzahl wohl vermutlich nicht den großen Segen der Päpste hatten! Die Detailverliebtheit die früher die Künstler in ihren Arbeiten den Bauwerken so ausdrucksvolle Stimmungen hinzufügten ist abergewaltig! Was lernen da Architeketen oftmals bloss heute?
Eindeutig ein Hingucker, wenn mal das ganze kirchliche ******* beiseitelässt!

Der Petersdom ist eine Empfehlung am frühsten Morgen. Spätestens ab 10 Uhr versperren Menschenmassen die Sicht. Wenn man schlau ist, besucht man zuerst den Dom und dann hinauf zur Kuppel eine schönere Sicht auf den Petersplatz gibt es nirgendwo!

St Pierre! comme beaucoup d’entre nous, je né la connaissais que dans des reportages ou encore grâce à la messe de Pâques retransmise à la tv! mais vue EN VRAI, c’est un enchantement! quelle beauté! quel faste; rien n’égale cet ouvrage grandiose, symbole de la puissance de l’église et des Papes à l’origine de sa fondation. Le sol de marbre, proposant la comparaison avec la taille des autres cathédrales du monde est somptueux! la Piéta si célèbre trôné en entrant à droite, le baldaquin du Bernin est plus haut encore que je né me l’imaginait; visite à faire dès 8h du matin, plus tard c’est bondé et la magie des lieux perd de son charmene pas oublier de visiter à gauche du baldaquin en descendant le petit escalier étroit dans un des piliers: la dernière demeure des papespas de photos dans ce sanctuaire, respecter le silenceet la spiritualité des lieux!

C’est une très belle place, à faire de nuit si possible !

La basílica cuenta con el mayor espacio interior de una iglesia cristiana en el mundo presenta 193 m de longitud, 44,5 m de altura, y abarca una superficie de 2,3 hectáreas. La altura que le confiere su cúpula hace que sea una característica dominante en el horizonte de Roma. Es considerada como uno de los lugares más sagrados del catolicismo. Se ha descrito como «la ocupante de una posición única en el mundo cristiano y como «la más grande de todas las iglesias de la cristiandad».
Hay que armarse de paciencia para entrar por las colas tan impresionantes que hay que aguantar

Man darf halt nicht darüber nachdenken, wieviel Macht diese Religion hat und wo das ganze Geld herkommt um solch eine Pracht zu errichten. Und wenn man sich DAS wegdenkt, ist dieser Platz ein wundervoller Ort :)
Ich empfehle das anmieten eines Fahrrads. Das kostet ungefähr einen 10er am Tag und damit kann man dann zu jedem Ort der Stadt pendeln und bekommt ganz nebenbei das pure Leben der Römer mit :)

Majestueux ! A faire oublier l’heure et demi de queue pour y entrer. N’oubliez pas de monter tout en haut de la coupole pour une vue imprenable sur le Vatican.

No hay palabras para describir lo que alli se ve. Una obra de impresion, todo de marmol, muy bonita y espectacular. Puedes subir a todo lo alto donde tendras unas vistas estupendas de la Plaza y de toda la ciudad de Roma. Lo unico malo que tiene es las colas que tienes que esperar para poder acceder, pero merece la pena.

Centro nerálgico de Roma y lugar de peregrinación para los católicos y amantes del arte

Hier braucht man nicht viel sagen, bzw. schreiben, jeder sollte sich sein eigenes Bild machen.

A igreja é bonita e sua cúpula belissima. Vale a pena pagar um pouco mais e subir lá pra ver o Vaticano de cima.
Ver o túmulo de J Paulo II foi emocionante pra mim

Sehr schön, riesig und einfach nur gigantisch.
Der aufstieg auf die aussichtsplattform dauert sehr lange ist nur zu empfehlen wenn nichts los ist.
Kleidung über dem Knie und Schultern ist Pflicht.

Der Petersdom und Petersplatz sind wirklich beeindruckend.
Jeden Mittwoch Vormittag hält der Papst eine Predigt. Wer pünktlich ist, und mutig ist in der Sonne dahinzubraten, kann die Atmoshpähre dieses Platzes Live miterleben.
Natürlich kann man sich auch einen Sitzplatz für 12 EUR kaufen, was aber nicht nötig ist da alles auf riesige Bildschirme übertragen wird.

Atemberaubend! Riesig! und kostenfrei ;-)
Nur hat man das Gefühl, das Ganze ist irgendwo in Asien, wenn man die Besucher genauer anschaut.
Ich empfehle auch gleich den kleinen Deutschen Friedhof auf dem Gelände des Vatikan zu besuchen, den Campo Santo Teutonico (
). Auch kostenlos und irgendwie nen kleiner Geheimtipp ;-)

Oeuvre de Della Porta, de Fontana, et Carlo Marderno
Une nef magnifique, la basiliqueest la plus grande du monde et est 2 fois plus grande que celle de Notre Dame. L’entrée est gratuite mais armez vous de patience car il y a beaucoup trop de monde. Belle place Pie XII.

Je né suis pas croyante pour un sou… cela dit, la Basilique faisait partie de la visite et j’en etais bien contente. Nous n’avons pas eu la chance de voir le Pape mais nous avons pu admirer le travail de Michel-​ange… et je n’ai jamais vu autant de «confessionnal» de ma vie ou des ecriteaux (avec les differentes langues parlees) etaient places au dessus de chaque entrée.

C’est beau et c’est grand mais cela né m’a pas éblouit outré mesure.

Magnifique, mais tout est dans le superlatif! On a l’impression d’être tout petit et que tout y est démesurément grand. Par contre, il y a la foule!

Que dire de plus qui n’ait été dit? Une anecdote personnelle: la nuit du 31 décembre 1999 au 1er janvier 2000 sur place, béni par le pape alors que nous chantions des louanges… Le bémol: la RAI monopolisait l’espace et le son, et gâchait un peu ce moment unique dans une vie.

Der Dom ist wirklich wunderschön und man kann hier fast einen halben Tag einplanen.
Neben dem Dom selbst sollte man einen Aufstieg zur Kuppel einplanen und auf dem Dach auch das Kaffee besuchen. Der Blick von hier ist atembraubend.
Natürlich sollten auch die Katakomben auf dem Plan stehen und für den Platz selbst sollte man auch ausreichend Zeit einpanen.
Nicht nru für gläubige Menschen ein sehr beeindruckender Ort.

Den Petersdom möchte ich hier auch noch bewerten, habe da so meine ganz eigene Erfahrung gemacht. Wen’s interessiert, kann die ganze Story hier nachlesen:

Catedral edificado sobre la supuesta tumba de San Pedro. hermosa obra situada en la ciudad del Vaticano visitado por millones de visitantes a diario. La meca del cristianismo. Es la iglesia más majestuosa y preciosa que he visto, sin lugar a duda. merec ela pena verla, aunque no seas creyente.

Fastuosidad. Grandiosidad. Religión. Fe. Vale la pena ver la cúpula. El baldaquino de San pedro es espectacular, con los rayos del sol. Vale la pena pasear tranquilamente por todas las naves y capillas laterales. Como siempre digo, al menos, al Vaticano, hay que ir una vez en la vida.

La basilica mas boita del mundo. Nada mas entrar a la derecha ya te recibe la mismisima piedad de miguel angel. La tumba de san pedro es preciosa y subir a la cupula una vistas que no debes perderte.

Es el principal edificio del Vaticano y la segunda mayor basílica del mundo (193 m de longitud y 44,5 m de altura). Es el punto principal de peregrinación de los fieles católicos y se encuentra en uno presidiendo la plaza de San Pedro.
Si vista desde el exterior parece impresionante cuando accedemos a su interior también encontramos obras de un valor incalculable.
Dentro de la basílica nos encontramos con una estatua de San Pedro en bronce, los peregrinos besan su pie derecho como señal de adhesión y fidelidad al Papa. Muestra de ello es lo desgastado que se encuentra el pie tras siglos de llevarse a cabo esta tradición.
Como obras destacables dentro de la basílica tenemos el baldaquino de bronce de Bernini que se alza sobre la tumba de San Pedro y la piedad de Miguel Angel además de muchas otras.
También se puede subir a la cúpula para ver los frescos de su interior así como poder ver una panorámica exterior de la ciudad de Roma.
También se puede visita la cripta donde están enterrados todos los Papas y donde veremos a gente llevando flores y venerando al último Papa fallecido Juan Pablo I.
Una de las cosas que llevan con mayor rigor es la vestimenta, no dejan acceder a la basílica con pantalones muy cortos ni con camisetas de tirantes, habrá que ir prevenido si no queremos que después de esperar las largas colas nos echen para atrás.

Basilica maravilhosa dentro do Vaticano, estado independente de roma. Lá dentro estão obras como a Pieta de Michelangelo e Escultura de Sao pedro, que tem o pe desgastado de tanto as pessoas passarem a mao e beijarem! Se pude, va num dia que tenha missa do papa, nao deixe de ir!!!

Très décue par la Basilique du Vatican en effet elle est très grande et très belle, mais je m’attendais à un monument bien plus imposant, bien plus impressionnant et où l’ambiance serait en adequation avec la notoriété du lieu. A voir quand même.

La plaza asombra
Tras verla en muchas fotos y en la televisión, cuando verdaderamente estás delante de ella te quedas verdaderamente deslumbrado. Sus columnas son realmente grandes comparadas con una persona y la plaza es preciosa. La vista que se tiene desde la calle que conduce a la entrada de la plaza es increíble. Y desde aquí podremos observar la fachada del Vaticano, coronada con los apóstoles.
