Crispi 19

Ok food, but it’s the worlds slowest restaurant. We waited 30 – 45 min between courses. We sat at 8:30 on New Years even and only finish before midnight because we skipped the last dish. It was double the cost they normally charged and the worse managed restaurant I ever seen. They also charged service without informing you before you sat down which is illegal in Italy. When we asked for a copy of the bill they refused to give us one.

Please just no. They prey on your expectation of Italy and underdeliver tenfold. The food is bland, uninspired, and worst of all, a lie. If you know anything about food, go to one of the 1 michelin star restaurants in the city. It will be much, much better, and about the same price.
p. s. they dont have an italian in the kitchen. isnt that weird…

We visited Ristorante Crispi 19 on a sweltering hot Sunday in August. Should have done more research before popping in as it was quite expensive for a lunch, but it was a case of wanting to find A/​C and excellent food with minimal walking. The food was indeed excellent, as was the service, but at quite a cost relative to other restaurants in Rome. The menu has an extensive seafood selection, which would have been ideal for dinner. Do not recommend for pasta as you can find it at half the price elsewhere. It was, however, quite tasty.

So I have a long history with this restaurant. My first visit to Italy was with my mom in 2010. We stayed at hotel Modigliani really close to the Spanish steps. Our first night in our hotel recommended this restaurant. It was really close by so we walked. We had a clam spagetthi that was so good we came back another night.
This past month my husband and I came to Italy and I couldn’t for the life of me remember the name to this place. I knew it was just around the corner from the hotel so we decided to walk around to look for it. We searched for half an hour going up and down streets. Finally we gave up but in a last ditch effort we stopped by the hotel to ask. They probably thought I was a complete crazy person when I started off saying so I stayed here 5 years ago… From my very vague description they were able to tell me it was crispi!
Sure enough it was the next block over! We arrived early around 7 and were seated at the table by the window. The place is perfect for a date night. We split every course and felt so satisfied. We had the pasta with clam sauce, the tuna tartare, and the sampler. My advice would be to skip the sampler. The service was excellent! A lot of times in Italy or France you would be blaspheming to ask for a red wine with fish. Here they suggested a really nice Amarone that I think went really well. Overall Crispi was and still is my favorite restaurant in Rome.

My husband and I visited Italy for the first time. Crispi 19 was the one the hotel concierge recommended us for the very first dinner in Italy.
We ordered the prefixed Fish Tasting Menu and every dish was tasty made us say wow or give sighs with admiration! The combination of fresh ingredients and chef’s sense of cooking was awesome. The presentation was beautiful too and the wine selection was also very good.
The restaurant was crowded and the service was a bit slow but we were fully satisfied with the great staff with appropriate friendliness. Out of all the restaurants we visited during our stay in Rome, Amalfi and Capri, Crispi 19 is definitely the one we’ll always remember and want to go back.

Mediocre food, small wine list, slow service. Not terrible, but far from what many think this place is. Wouldn’t return.

So I had read some great reviews but restaurant had very small portions even compared to other fine dining experiences (see my review of Ad Hoc Restaurant)
Ordered ½ bottle of wine but was charged for something more expensive that I did not order: staff were not apologetic
Food was very expensive for what we had
«Smoked salmon and lobster tartare» which was neither smoked nor tartare which was tasty
Linguine with lobster and shellfish ravioli which were ok but very small portions
Small intimate place with odd décor (sort of faux Modigliani meets velvet Elvis)

Walked out crazy menu stinks like a bad fish market. Went down the street and it was just ok

This was not good. It was bad ambiance extremely over priced and did not much for the taste buds. We chose the 7 course sampler with the wine pairings and the chef needs to learn that some items are bear left in the trash and not cooked. Sand in the scallops and squids just capped it.

Food was a bit fishy for our tastes. I believe in Rome the trend is to add fish stock to pastas. I’m assuming that it was just our palates, but it was too much for us.
