Hmm this was the first club I went to in Rome and it was an… interesting experience. We got there a bit past 12, but it was completely dead — like I could hear crickets chirping on the dance floor. We decided to troll around Rome for a while and return when there was actually people. Luckily, the Spanish steps are only 5 minutes walking distance away so we could burn half an hour taking derpy pictures before returning to Gilda. Second time in, we saw a glimmer of hope. There were a very hip couple walking in — I’m guessing American tourists. Btw, cover charge is 10 euros with one free drink. Coat check is a complete rip off. It’s 5 euros but you could easily leave your jacket on a sofa inside and keep an eye on it throughout the night. Anyways, we stepped in to the dance room, and bam complete sausage fest… There was a group of college? guys dancing like fools(props to them because it really looked like they dgaf-ed pretty hard) and some VERY sketchy old guys(they legit could be in the mafia…) The bartenders were pretty chill/cool and kept us company until it livened up around 1:30 am. All foreigners and young adults. Musics really good and easy to dance to — super mainstream and top 40 woohoo. Aside from having to constantly dance away from the really sketchy and grope-y old creeps, the club was fun. And it was pretty sausage heavy the entire night, so if you want to get some… lol SECONDROUND Gilda New Year’s Eve: Three college kids in Rome and it was New Year’s Eve so of course, we wanna get our drink/party on. But alas, not many choices for foreigners and those on a college budget haha. So we decided to return to Gilda… Approaching the club before 11:30, we were greeted by an Italian version of Ceelo Green. There was actually a good crowd outside. woah surprise! He had shades on, some glittery tux outfit, and even champagne in hand haha he looked/sounded like he had been drinking for a while already. Good sign! Gilda opened up more rooms for tonight’s event. The main room/dance floor was reserved for those who got the dinner package(100 euro +) so of course they were old(40s and up). Everyone was dressed super classy. They reeked swag and $$. All the young people(those who had paid 40 euros to get in and had open bar woohoo until 12:30) were crammed into these two rooms to the side of the dance floor. Most were college students from this Australian student trip and were pretty well dressed, super classy. Some were rich kids who sat on the couches — looking all emo and sullen while scrolling through pictures of themselves on their phones lol. And some were slightly older couples(late 20s). The open bar was crazy packed — I guess people here had a really tough year because it was drink on drink on drink. The bartender(same dude from previous night) was a bit sloppy and couldn’t handle the over eager crowd of young drinkers. Counting down was a bit of a let down. I don’t think anyone actually knew when to start because different people were counting at different times… it was the most awkward countdown in my life, no question. Once they moved the tables around 12:30, things started off slow. They played old people music like ABBA and YMCA(seriously?). Not my jam but with 40 euros down the drain, we were hoping for something that came out in the 2000’s. Around 1, the dj redeemed himself with top 40/throwback music. GETLOW! At this point, the dance floor was swarming with young people and the older people had resorted to the bar. Some of them had a bit too much and started dancing like crazy and very provocatively. It was a real eye-opener. This 60 year old man next to me could move his hips and body roll way better than me — I feel like I have to step it up next time. There was even a dance battle between this one korean star look-a-like and the hunky photographer! I felt like I was in the movie Step Up or something. We had to leave around 3 because my friend’s dad picked us up but it felt like the party was just getting started. The music was amazing and there was so much energy in the club. When we left, people were actually waiting outside in hordes to get in! Gilda is like expensive wine, the longer you let it sit, the better it gets. Too much?

Opens at midnight, closes at 4am. Top notch. Bouncers were cool. Cover charge was a wash since it was 10EURO + a free drink. Drinks are 15EURO and 5 for shots. Not bad for a place this nice and classy. Inside, pure madness. 2 Chainz, techno, they had it all. Got home just in time to catch a tan. Great hostesses, too! If I go missing on a Friday night, look here, because this is where I’ll be. 6 stars.
