We came here twice during our ten day Roman stay this past February. It was 2 blocks from our hotel and was one of our best meals. Well priced generous portions of well seasoned and super fresh seafood. Friendly attentive service. Huge space with 3 different dining areas. Although they seem to certainly cater to tourists plenty of Italians both meals there. First night we shared a platter of fried seafood and 1 large grilled sea bream whole fish. We ordered side of veggies. Second meal seafood home made pasta and grilled whole fish. Did see many tables ordering pizza which looked reliably good.

The pasta was pretty good. I do agree that the food quality does vary from dish to dish. the wait staff were really nice and the atmosphere was very comfortable.

I frequented Grotta Azzura twice and found my experiences to differ in food-quality; however, the service was great each time. The wait staff did a great job making us feel like family. The first time, I had amazing beef raviolis in a sausage-tomato cream sauce that was absolutely divine. It was notably rich, but not over the top, and the raviolis were clearly homemade delicate pillows. I felt that time and effort really went into this dish. The second time I ordered the lasagna with really high expectations and they were not met. The meat sauce was homemade but fairly standard and the pasta was softer than I expected. I would go back but stick with the raviolis or the friends I went with had the seafood pasta and gave it high ratings since it was loaded with mussels and other seafood! Also, the complimentary limoncello was a great way to end the meal.

The mussels are amazing as well as spaghetti allo scoglio. It was kind of pricey so I only ate here a few times.

Lobster pasta I would give 5 stars just because the lobster flavor was so intense! Pizzas are pretty good too. Nice chewy thin crust.

great seafood restaurant located just north of Rome over the bridge… in which neighborhood? I can’t be sure… east of where Vatican City is… so really far out there. upon entry, the restaurant seems small, but don’t be deceived. it’s actually quite large. in the back of the restaurant, you will feel like you are in a cave… while the front of the house, you will feel it’s cozy and marine like features. the focaccia bread with rosemary and sea salt was divine. warm, soothing… this is how a bread basket ought to be every time. my spaghetti with shellfish was delightful. the spaghetti fresh and had lots of rich, flavor. i especially loved the service… from the waitstaff to the owners. They really know how to wine and dine a girl make her feel like home!
