TL;DR, don’t go here. It’s bad. ***** I really tried to give this place a chance, but there were some glaring lapses in culinary skill and customer service that just couldn’t be ignored: 1) When they were seating us outside, they didn’t have a table immediately set up for a group of 8, which is understandable. However, instead of pushing tables together, they tried to split us up for no reason, and we had to push our own tables together. Also, when I looked inside, there were plenty of large tables that could have seated all of us with no problem. 2) Ordered calamari for the table. It was very rubbery and didn’t have much in the way of flavor. 3) Ordered a Coke, but it didn’t come while the rest of the table got their San Pellegrino right away. I had to ask multiple waiters multiple times before it was finally brought out to me. 4) Ordered fettuccine with black truffle(primi) as my main dish. Like the Coke, it didn’t arrive when the rest of the group received their primi dishes. Had to ask our waiter multiple times about it, and even had to pull over another waiter once ours seemed to start ignoring us. By the time my friend got his steak(secondi), my dish still hadn’t come! It got to the point that my friends started offering me their food because they felt bad, which made me feel bad because I wanted them to enjoy their own meals. Finally, the other waiter came back and informed that he put a rush order on my fettuccine and that it would be out soon, but left without any explanation as to why it hadn’t been made in the first place. By the time I got my food, everyone else had pretty much finished eating :(That being said, the pasta was pretty good, so they get one star for that. 5) Speaking of steak, my friend ordered medium rare and it came out barely seared. He had to send it back to the kitchen to be cooked more. 6) Another friend ordered risotto, apparently it was very bland and he had to add salt to it. 7) Worst of all, not once was there any explanation for the unreasonable delays in getting my food, nor were there any attempts to make it up to me. No free dessert, no deducted bill, nothing. I understand that customer service isn’t really a thing in Europe, but I would expect at least something from a €€ establishment. Conclusion: Don’t go here. Food quality was inconsistent and mostly subpar, and our waiter was practically nonexistent. I hate to be so negative, but La Scala simply had no excuse for being this bad while charging this much.

After a not so great dinner our first night in Rome, one of our Italian traveling companions was complaining about the previous night’s experience while in line at the Vatican museum. A local man who was in line beside her apologized for our bad experience and suggested La Scala — it was perfect. The food was incredible — so many different flavor combinations! The Aperol Spritz was the perfect combination of Aperol, Prosecco and sparkling water. The only place that got it right here in Rome. The atmosphere was classic — small street /alley way with local entertainers playing songs on the accordion and guitar. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for the perfect Italian meal. Thanks random Roman man in the museum line! You were two for two on your recommendations !!

This was the best restaurant I had while in Rome! The food was incredible and the menu had a variety of foods. I wish I could Go back and eat this every day. The food was super fresh and they even had a whole section with black truffles. The prices were very reasonable and the staff was so friendly. The service was slow but I really enjoyed not be rushed and being able to sit and enjoy the time. Loved this place so much.

Very bad service! We waited far too long after menus were dropped off and our waiter never came back to take our drink order, much less our meal order, and I finally had to get his attention at which point he never apologised for the wait. Later in the evening, a waitress dropped off biscotti and grappa at our table and rushed off; as someone who has dined at many establishments where little cookies or digestives are presented at the end of a meal on a complimentary basis, we didn’t think much of it and didn’t chase her down. 10 minutes later she came back to the table next to us with another serving of biscotti and grappa and apologised to them for delivering their order to us, then stating to us, «you didn’t say anything,» as though we had the chance or responsibility and should have gotten up to find her to say, «we did not order this.» My husband did not enjoy his tuna steak or the tiramisu. I liked the burrata with black truffles. Regardless, the service was absolutely unacceptable and I would not recommend La Scala to anyone!

Going from a recommendation at the hotel we went to this place. The interior settings was ok. The service was slow as mentioned in previous posts and the wait staff was hot and cold. The filet with balsamic dressing was again average. They didn’t ask how I wanted it cooked and it came out a little underdone than I normally like it. We also had fettuccini al pomodoro which was good but nothing special. We decided to pass on dessert as it all looked pretty typical. Which may have been a mistake as it then took 30 minutes to get our check and have the credit card run thru. I believe they were annoyed we didn’t have dessert after asking for the menu.

Seems like the most common complaint from others is that the service is slow. I have to agree with them. It is slow. But if you’re not starving or in any particular rush, it’s not that big of a deal. My friend and I stopped in around 1:30 or 2PM and saw the the patio seating was packed. Lured in by the Free WiFi, we told the waiter we would wait for the patio seating to open up. We also decided to have a glass of the house red while we waited. No more than 10 minutes later we had a seat in the corner. So this place is busy, really busy. You really have to try to catch the waiters here. I may have gotten used to this since I’ve been living in Europe and the servers here take their sweet @$$ time… so keep that in mind and expect it. My friend and I decided to split an appetizer. I forget the exact name of it, but it had Parma ham, cheese, and potatoes… and yes, it was a great little teaser for our grande lunch. I ordered the tagliatelle frutti di mare as my main, and although it took a while to reach me, when it did its’ presentation was spectacular. Plenty of giant prawns, mussels, clams, squid were all mixed into the pasta and it tasted just as amazing as it looked. Overall, both my friend and I left completely full and satisfied… 2+ hours later.

Food was ok – service was slow. They seem to seat tourist at the rear which was very hot. Another table finally got up and walked out.

My girlfriend and I who were on vacation decided to have a date night in Rome. La Scala was it. The fact that this restaurant is centrally located would be the only reason to go and eat there. Tables packed like cows in a herd. No privacy. We felt engaged into our neighbors conversation. Service was beyond slow and food felt like it came from the microwave

Went here recently since it was so close to John Cabott University, the menu looked spectacular. Since we were a larger group(7 people), we set inside. The food was good, the wine list extensive and value priced, the service however was quite poor. Maybe because we were the only table that wasn’t speaking italian? We were made as tourists from the minute we walked in. Had to wait a long time for the order to be taken, food came out quite haphazardly — one person’s starter arrived as the next person was getting their entrée, dessert was served for some and entrée’s for others. When the food did arrive, it was good, well prepared and visually pleasing. But the frustration of dealing with the help overshadowed everything.
