mamas roll pasta it all appears inviting and finishes«meh» Average at best. Certainly not a place to return. Charming ladies make fresh pasta in the front area for all to see, but that is the only highlite. The Fritto Misto was flat out bad, the entrées were average. Carry on…

Home made pasta was great, had it carbonara style which was perfect flavoring. The gnocchi with ox tail sauce was tasty. The gnocchi was a little mushy, but the sauce was amazing. Tiramisu and cheesecake dessert was alright, but could tell it wasn’t prepackaged and homemade also. Great experience and food!

Wanted to enjoy this place, really, truly did. The noodles are SO salty. I would think twice if you are going to see the ladies make the pasta.

Solid meal! We ordered the pasta arrabbiata and the cacio e pepe. It was very good. There was a woman making pasta in the front window, so that was interesting.

Unfortunately in my opinion, the pasta dishes here a bit too salty. And the Strozzapreti pasta shape was too dense or hard solid. The Tagliolini was a bit more al dente. And you’d think since the Nona’s are in the dinning room making all the pasta by hand that all the pasta textures would be on point. I don’t now. The wine selection has great prices. The salad caprese was excellent and the shaved Prosciutto was very good. Still the service was great and in English. The place is cool and the atmosphere was great. That is way I gave it a 4 stars. But in truth I may not be back only due to the saltiness of their pastas, which is why one goes to Italian restaurants, for the pasta. If you can’t eat it, then why.

Following another recommendation from my hotel, I popped in for an early dinner here on my first night, ahead of a walking tour that started nearby. It possible that I caught them slightly unawares, as I had an uncertain welcome when I walked in — I was certainly the first customer of the night. Having sorted out where I was going to sit, it wasn’t long before I placed my order for a traditional ravioli dish, leaving me a few minutes to take in the ambience. The tables were draped with brown paper in a nice traditional touch, but that was slightly offset by the rather loud radio playing — it was more foreground than background. Perhaps this is switched off later in the evening, but it was a bit of a contrast to the vibe you’d expect from a restaurant that has a little old lady making fresh pasta in the window. Atmosphere issues notwithstanding, the ravioli was excellent — a sizeable dish too, flavoursome and well balanced. Like a fool, I agreed to a dessert dish, knowing I had a couple of hours walking to offset the indulgence. The chocolate ice cream that arrived was gigantic and while it was delicious, I admitted defeat halfway through. A definite two spoon job! The bill was swiftly presented when asked for — and it was more than reasonable. This was a great choice overall — it felt less like a tourist restaurant and more like one the locals would frequent too. Recommended.

Fresh pasta at Campo di Fiori. I think most people make reservations and we didn’t have one but they were able to fit us in. They focus on pasta dishes with fresh pasta. Pasta definitely tasted fresh and I loved the texture of it. We got a spicy tomato pasta dish that was delicious but I can’t remember the name of it. The carbonara good with bacon was good but the sauce was overall a bit too creamy/heavy for my preference.

We liked it so much we ate here twice! The pasta is made right in the window of the restaurant. As others point out, despite being in a touristy area, there are plenty of locals eating here. You must try the carbonara.

Very good fresh and homemade pastas ! Was not disappointed and highly recommend this place. Even though the restaurant is right in the city center in a touristy area, it’s not at all a touristy place. Most of the clients are Italian so you know it’s a good sign as you get in. It can be pretty busy so you might wait a bit to get a table but it’s worth it !!!

Sehr sehr gute Pasta in einer typischen römischen Osteria. Geschirr aus Ton. Flotte Bedienung.

WOW… some of the best pasta we had in Italy as well as the best buffalo mozzarella. We have never had mozzarella that was so flavorful anywhere. No salt, pepper, balsamic, or olive oil needed. Come early as the place fills fast and has a wait. Service was good. I recommend the spicy sauce, it was excellent. Very cool to see the lady making the pasta in the window!

Came here because of Unilocal and also because we saw that they make their pasta in house when passing by. I have to say i am disappointed. When the main thing you are serving is pasta with sauce, you should have perfected both things. First of all the carbonara. SALT-Y. wayyy too salty and sorry I know italians like their pasta al dente, but this wasn’t al dente. It was HARD. NO idea why everyone is giving the carbonara great reviews. I had ragu gnocchi. I have to say that the gnocchi was pillowly soft, the portion was huge, but the sauce was nothing crazy and they actually did not give enough sauce to spread out evenly. Don’t waste one of your meals in rome here, I have had better pasta in Toronto and Paris.

Unilocal led us here and we were disappointed. The homemade pasta here was actually one of my least favorites I had in Italy. It’s pretty thick pasta. Sauces are okay. Gets really busy though so make a reservation if you do want to try it. Not sure why so many people rave about this on here. I wouldn’t recommend it. FOOD Carbonara(2 stars): Carbonara is not my favorite anyway, but this was just not very good. Amatriciana(3 stars): Probably the best sauce out of the 3 I tried. Make sure you like bacon if you order this. A heavier sauce but more flavor that the others. Pomodoro e basilico(2.5 stars): Good tomatoes. But with a lightly sauced dish the pasta really has to be good)= Problem with all of these dishes was the pasta! Which is supposed to be the star of the dish. The pasta is just so thick that it doesn’t give you the same happy feeling you get when you eat the normal cut and thin homemade pasta(or at least for me anyway). Homemade pasta should melt in your mouth! This one is chewy and you can’t taste much of the sauce with it. SERVICE Had some Italian eye candy provided by our waiter(= He was really nice and gave us suggestions. ATMOSPHERE We sat on the patio which was nice. Definitely make a reservation for this place if you want to try it.

We were so looking forward to this place with all the RAVE reviews & fresh handmade pasta!!! But def disappointed with the outcome :( Our waiter was super nice ;) He recommended what type of pasta to get and the sauces, he did say the amatriciana which was the best one and right on that. I now wish we all didn’t get the same pasta type, the fettuccine which he recommended, none of us liked. As everyone says in Roma try the carbonara, that’s what I did, it was lacking in flavor. Ceramic colored cups, kinda weird since I like a clear glass to see my water in :( Got the prosciutto appetizer(3.5 stars) — pretty good, standard. Carbonara(2 stars) — the handmade pasta is handmade and fresh yes, the way the fettuccine is made results in it being thick, doughy and just too heavy! Not even OK for me because the sauce was just too bland. Amatriciana(tomato sauce and Italian bacon)(3 stars) — Same deal with the pasta too thick, but the sauce was actually really tasty. Would’ve been a great dish with spaghetti or anything thinner, since what they call fettuccine isn’t flat like how it’s supposed to be. Pomodoro e basilico(3 stars) — Again fresh sauce and pretty good, but the thick pasta just ruined the dish. Really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately wasn’t a memorable experience for us.

The homemade pasta is really, really good. Get out of your chair and try it right now good. Came here on my first night in Rome, and again on my last. It was a perfect bookend to eating around Rome. Carbonara is amazing — can’t go wrong.

Homemade Goodie. Restaurant is located in an alley inside the market square. As we walked toward the restaurant, a older lady was at a long high wall table making the pasta noodles. Our party of 6 grabbed a late lunch. We ordered 4 pasta, meat platter to share. Each noodle was home made in the shop and it was delicious. The sauce was just enough otherwise it would be too salty. One of my favorite was the carbonara. I would recommend getting a couple items and share family style so there is a chance to try different types of pasta. They also have house wine and we got a red. It was good with the meat platter. Would recommend trying this place out.

Had an excellent meal here and great experience. First of all if you only speak and read English be warned the menu is only in Italian. None of us could read the menu so we asked the server to order for the 6 of us. We ate Italian style and shared all the dishes. It was all very good! The house red/white wines were also very good. They make all their pasta on the premises. This place is worth a visit.

Fresh pasta made in front of you. What more could I ask for? Thanks to my Unilocal family for pointing me towards the right direction. Upon entering, a friendly gentleman lead us to our seat. If you have any questions about their menu, the employees are happy to help you out. Our server was great, he checked on us to make sure we enjoyed everything. He was attentive and quick. The ambiance is laid back. Restroom is available and clean. Freshly made pasta is out of this world. Cooked perfectly with a lovely chew and light. Their portions are excellent. They really give you a lot of pasta! Biting into the Gnocchi was like biting into a cloud. This is some of the best gnocchi that I ever put in my mouth. The Ravioli was stuffed with smooth, light and creamy cheese. It had bits of mint in there, which was a nice surprise and incredibly refreshing. It took the ravioli filling to another level. Sauces were on point. Fresh tomatoes that had a lovely sweet flavor and were incredibly juicy. I really do love the tomatoes in Rome. The Gnocchi dish had freshly made mozzarella melted through into the sauce. Drool. We ended our meal with a Tiramisu, which was on point. So light, creamy, cool, smooth, and packed with flavor. A must try if you’re here.

Judging by the online reviews, it’d be a crime to stay in this neighborhood and not try Osteria da Fortunata. Although hordes of tourists are attracted to this eatery, it manages to retain a charming, old-fashioned feeling, all wooden seats, ceramic tableware, each menu handwritten. The sweet lady who makes the pasta from scratch near the front is adorable, saying«Buon giorno» to all and asking us how the food is. They really know how to make you feel welcome, even if you’re a sweaty, culturally incompetent tourist who doesn’t know the first thing about Italy. We ordered cacio e pepe(cheese and pepper) and fiori di zucca guanciale & pecorino(zucchini blossoms, bacon, and pecorino cheese), both with fettucine(those are the long, flat noodles, right?), which was recommended to us by the waiter. The cacio e pepe was wonderfully peppery. On the other hand, the fiori di zucca was milder and cheesier, with thick, fatty bacon adding saltiness. What really stands out is the obviously handmade pasta: dense, chewy, al dente, hand-shaped pieces of uneven thickness just barely saturated in the sauce(of which there isn’t too much). I can’t say I’m much of a pasta connoisseur, but this feels legit and unpretentious. The flavors are great and the service is awesome, all for decent prices. If and when I return to Rome, I’d totally eat here again.

Very authentic family owned Italian restaurant. Like most have mentioned– the pasta is handmade and you can even watch the woman making it throughout the day/evening. Our table of 4 split: Pasta Carbonara, Pasta with tomato and pork cheeks, meatballs with lemon and Ox Tail. The Ox Tail was the biggest hit– falling off the bone in a really flavorful tomato sauce. The Carbonara was ok– not as great as all the Unilocal reviews– super rich. The Pasta with pork cheek was great– lots of flavor. The meatballs were too lemon-y– this dish was a miss for us. The desserts were fantastic! The Pana Cotta and Tiramisu were excellent! Service was friendly but a little forgetful and had to be reminded of parts of our order twice.

Absolute Empfehlung.
