Suite Rome

Before I start my review, I want to express that I think the information provided publicly via the Suite Rome website (
) and also by different booking portals are quite misleading. The pictures shown by Suite Rome on their website depict a lovely, modern room and a fresh breakfast being served on a roof terrace with a spectacular view towards the Vatican City. Furthermore, our booking website (Expedia) promised a breakfast buffet. What the pictures on the website do NOT show is the kitchen. I guess this does not fit into the story Suite Rome want to tell you: they make you expect booking a very modern, almost luxurious Bed and Breakfast (BnB) where you get a lovely breakfast on a roof terrace with a splendid view towards the Vatican.
What we got was a view into a not very appealing light shaft /​patio and breakfast made by ourselves using packaged food they provided.
When we arrived at Via Ottaviano 9, we had a bad time finding the entrance to Suite Rome. The building is H U G E and there is no easily visible sign saying «Suite Rome» or so. The only proof for being at the right place is a 2×5 cm plate at the doorbell near a massive door between a Gelateria and a food take away shop. After finding the right entrance, we could sneak into the building as the door was open. A guy walking out of the building then told us that the BnB is located in 5^th floor.
When we arrived in the 5^th floor the reception was not occupied. Or to be more precise: all doors were closed. Oddly enough, they had asked me via email after booking when we will arrive… We also tried to call the manager using the number provided at a plate at the BnB door, but nobody responded… After 10 – 15 minutes, a chamber maid noticed us and let us in. Hooray, we have reached our destination.
We got an own apartment, which was really big and had two bedrooms. As far as I know, there are also smaller rooms in the part of the BnB, which is located in the same flat as the reception. So we were actually quite lucky. Furthermore, our apartment had a more or less completely equipped kitchen (coffee machine, kettle, refrigerator, electric oven, gas stove …). This again was something we did not expect. But unfortunately, a lot of «tools» and other things were missing (pots, pans, knifes, gas, …) — so you cannot cook there if you want. You even have problems if you need to cut bread.
Bedrooms and kitchen were quite nice but not as nice as the apartment shown on the photos on the website. Luckily, everything was reasonably clean — except for the oven, where I found a quite dirty, used tray from the folks that rented the apartment before us.
The bathroom of our surprisingly huge apartment was surprisingly tiny. Two people can barely wash themselves there at the same time. And if you are corpulent, you will have a really bad time to slip through the entrance of the shower cubicle, as this is only (about) 35 cm wide. Also the toilet is unpleasant: after flushing, water is spraying out the pipes from above. However, cleanliness of the bathroom was quite okay. But still you cannot say that this bathroom is a nice place as it is too small and too old.
Finally, as written above, the «view» out of the windows was terrible. The apartment only has windows facing a light shaft. You see lots of vans of air conditioning systems, windows and other things you do not want to see.
The breakfast is no buffet as promised on our booking site. They provide packaged food like milk, butter, croissants, zwieback, jam, etc in the fridge or on the kitchen table. You do not get any cheese, sausages, eggs, etc. If you want tee or coffee, you have to make it yourself. But be aware: Never use the coffee machine and the kettle at the same time. The fuse will immediately blow and you have to hope that somebody is at the reception to pop it back in for you…
Summary: We expected something entirely different. What bothered me the most were the breakfast, the view from the room, the reception and also the very fancy way how they present themselves in the Internet. You simply expect more than you get. Don’t get fooled as we were.

The staff was helpful. The location is okay-it’s on via Ottaviano located right near the tourist spots and steps away from St. Peter’s Basilica and Vatican City. The first room we had for two nights was the «Divina Comeda». This room is nothing like what is pictured on tripadvisor, expedia or
. The photos are deceiving. I have attached some pictures of the room. The bathrooms smell awful, somewhat like mold and are very tiny. I have attached photos of the BR also. When we entered our room, there was a very distinct smell of cigarette smoke that lingered the entire time we stayed. I was fed up so I asked Francesco to change our room, he let us know that the neighboring room would be free the following day. We were switched into «La Dolce Vita» for one night which was a larger room, but with many of the same problems as the previous room. You can hear your neighbors go to the bathroom, the building is fairly old so whenever someone on your floor is in the bathroom, water will back up into the sink, toilet and bidet. I have attached a photo of the sink backing up with water and residue. When we changed rooms into La Dolce Vita, there was hair on the floor everywhere and everything smelled like a moldy funeral home. If you live with any standard whatsoever, this place is not for you.
