My Go To. It doesn’t really even matter what you order, just order whatever sounds good, it will be good, I guarantee it. This place has beautiful views of the town, a gorgeous outside terrace overlooking the countryside and castle and a huge inside and a clean bathroom!(woohoo) My favorite options are(in no order): Ciuffetti with Radicchio and Spek: OHMYGOD! so its little pasta pockets, stuffed with prosciutto covered in a cream sauce with smoked prosciutto(spek). Tagliata: grilled steak over a bead of arugula topped with balsamic vinegar glaze and shaved parmesan Sutrini: a local specialty, soft tortilla/crêpe rolled up with romano cheese inside Orange and Pepper Salad: It is so fresh, just trust me on this, if you want a light salad. Grilled vegetables: There is a good chance that you have been stuffing yourself with all this heavy food and all you want is to stay light tonight, a side of grilled veggies would be perfect, eggplant, and zucchini, grilled and lightly salted. Everyone who works here is an absolute pleasure, they are sweet and always helpful. The food is always great and fresh, but be aware that dinner in Italy isn’t about turnaround, It’s about spending time with friends around a table of great food. They bring things out slowly so that you have time to enjoy everything. Did I mention the Ciuffetti?

Come on just about any Saturday night between May and October, and you will find a big table full of people speaking English… and you will almost certainly see me there at the table. That is because we at Culture Discovery Vacations hold our welcome dinner for our new cooking vacation guests there every week, and we do it here for a good reason! Taverna di Frati is situated in what was once the stables of an ancient monastery. It has wonderful atmosphere with high vaulted ceilings and beautiful arches. In the warmer months, they open up a beautiful and huge patio area(part of which overlooks the castle), and it always a wonderful experience. The food here is unbelievable! I suggest«Ciufetti» for your first course. There are little pasta pillows filled with smoked prosciutto and raddichio in a cream sauce. They are to die for. For a second course, be sure to order the«Tagliata», which is a balsamic vinegar marinated steak… WOW! The service here is fantastic, but please be aware that it won’t be fast. In Italy, that is usually a good sign. This is no churn ‘em in and push ‘em out restaurant. The are back in the kitchen making your food to order, not reheating junk they prepped earlier. Remember that in Italy, a good meal is easily a 2 hour experience, and when it is done right(as it is here), it s truly memorable. The pricing is fantastic. This is possibly the best price to value restaurant I know of in the area, and I patronize them all. If all of this doesn’t convince you, consider this: It is the local’s choice. In Soriano, when someone has an event, a family celebration, etc. this is the place that is usually chosen. Lastly, there are times to avoid this restaurant. On Sundays for lunch during the summer months, it is often used for weddings or other large events. If you see a huge party, you may get slower service. On holidays, this place gets packed, and you will need advance reservations.
