We were dropped off at the bus station in Venice and walked to Hotel Alex late on a Sunday night. We had a phone with data, and put the address in. It took us pretty close, but then when we put in the words HOTELALEX into the GPS is took us there. We had previously spoken to a very nice lady on the phone about checking in late(around 11pm) so she stayed there late for us. The room was small, hot and a little dark/dingy. It was a quad so they gave us 2 twin beds and a pull out couch. Though the second night we were there, a twin cot appeared in addition. All of which were rather uncomfortable, as were the pillows. The bathroom was cramped with no windows; it had bugs and mold, and the towels were really rough. There was no A/C and we were unlucky to come on a pretty hot night. In the morning, with the windows open, it was LOUD, people opening stores and carts rolling across the cobblestone walkways. The view from the room was nice, though I am sure the view from any third story building in Venice is. There was a free breakfast of croissants, rolls, yogurt and coffee in the morning which was supposed to be 8 – 9:30, but she happily served us at 9:45. There was free wifi that worked well. The location was good, it took us about 10 minutes to walk to the Rialto Bridge. Finally, I have to rave about how accommodating the guy was for me when my card was declined at an ATM, we went back to the hotel and he allowed me to spend a solid 30 minutes calling PNC(to the USA) to square it out. They do NOT accept cards, cash only.
