The food was amazing! I had the papperdale with hare and truffles and my wife had spaghetti with lobster and tomatoes, both dishes were so good. The location right on the canal at sunset is a moment to always remember. Highly recommended!

This is really a great place — you couldn’t ask for a better location — on the Dorsoduro quayside close to Zattere vaporetto stop, but not so close you can hear the boats. Visually it’s everything a waterside restaurant should be at night — white clothed tables, smart waiters, candlelight throughout and, as it’s Italy chic, well turned out diners. It’s not so cheap but far from outrageous — two starters(seafood rissotto), two main courses(one seabass, one wild boar), 3 glasses of excellent wine, 2 coffees, mineral water, EUR85 inc service. All of this wouldn’t amount to 5 stars if the wild boar hadn’t been something genuinely exceptional. Intensely seasoned wrapped in panchetta and cooked until the centre had only just stopped bleeding but was still translucent — brave and difficult to get right but perfect for wild boar. On the downside a reservation is pretty much essential. .. it doesn’t matter how beautiful or well conncected you are — no reservation — join the queue for a table!

Caffe La Piscina is well situated on the Zattere with broad views out to Giudecca(and only 10 minutes walk from the sublime Peggy Guggenhem Collection. It has a lovely inner room, terrace seating immediately outside and a floating pontoon on the Canale della Giudecca. It seems a little more upscale than some of the places on the Zattere and the pasta we both had was marvelous. Mine was thin delicate strips served with tomatoes and sardines. Fabulous. My wife had ravioli with lagoon fish and asparagus and claimed it was the best food of the trip. The general ambience was added to by knowing we were about to go the Guggenheim and by the intensely intellectual conversation about literature and film(in mixed Italian, French and English) of the two couples at the next table!
