There are a few things that you can do when you find yourself wide awake, early in the morning in Venice. Option one is to go back to sleep… but why waste that time when you go to option two, find a bakery and eat something. I(always) opt for option 2. Bob and I set off to find bakery where we could sample some pastries while en route to get some yummy coffee. We sort of stumbled on this place as we were walking down the street. I was transfixed by their pastry case and decided that we simply must go in. There was a wide variety of pastries and we very clumsily pointed to the ones that we would like. I went with some kind of fruit tart and Bob had the chocolate éclair cream puff thing. My fruit tart was amazing! It was like a miniature mixed fruit pie? And Bob’s éclair cream puff thing is exactly what it sounds like… perfection! The crust on my tart was buttery and dense but not flaky, it was exactly what a tart crust should be. And Bob’s cream puff filling was some of the best I have ever had. It was like a mix between buttercream icing and whipped cream? We restrained ourselves and waited to eat our treats until we got our coffees in hand. Then we plopped down on some steps and had a delicious little breakfast while we watched people bustle about. If you can think of more perfect way to start a day, I’d like to hear it!

So glad I found this place. I got a delicious salami & cheese sandwich and a can of coke zero for only € 4. It was the best sandwich I’d had during my stay and would definitely have gone back had I found them before my last day. I also browsed through the store and they offer sandwiches, pastries, gelato, beverages, but also some basic grocery items and a lot of chocolate in the back. I walked a bit further down the street and sat on the edge of the canal on a beautiful sunny day to enjoy my lunch. Just about perfect!
