After spending time in Rome and Cinque Terre, my girlfriend and I were looking for a less touristy and more local Italian experience. We did some research and eventually decided on Valtidone Verde, although we weren’t really sure what to expect. In the end, our time spent there was by far the best part of our trip to Italy. Ludmilla, the owner of the B&B, was extremely personable and informative during our stay. She gave us tips for what to do in the area and told us all about her farm and farming techniques. She also taught us how to make bread on our last night. Her breakfasts were great, but making our own bread and then eating it the next morning was even better. The town near the B&B, Zavattarello, is a hidden gem. It’s only an hour and a half drive from Milan but feels decades removed. The countryside is beautiful, the history is rich and the people are very friendly. It was a nice break from the hustle of Rome and the rude service in Cinque Terre. Overall, Valtidone Verde was by far the best part of our three week trek through Italy. I highly recommend it to those looking for a unique and authentic Italian experience at a quality bed and breakfast.
