Andy’s serves up the unique experience of the salaryman izakaya under the train tracks atmosphere, foreigners friendly service, and outstanding food! Definitely a memorable time for the visitor to Tokyo and an excellent venue to celebrate the end of the work week! Be sure to make a reservation though… Andy’s is extremely popular.

The KIng Crab is HUGE and delicious. not salty like what we get in the States but actually very sweet. Saw many expats every time I came. Service is A Plus and all their other menu items are very authentic and very good. This place will definietly be on my rotation next time I visit!

What service! Andy stood outside waiving the Red lantern and we finally arrived for our 7 pm reservation. Oops! cash only, off to 711. My wife was waiting with a glass of wine. I started with a Guinness draught. Snow crab, asparagus, vegetable tempura, and fish of the day eyes and all much to my wife’s chagrin(I fixed it by hiding the eye with a crab claw), all very good. We were down stairs, there was smoke but not overwhelming. Service was friendly and efficient. A fun lively place. Hint if you exit Bic Camera turn right and follow the overhead rail across the intersection. only a few doors down, the Guinness sign is not very visible.

There is so much to to like about Andy’s. It’s not fancy, but the food is amazing and the beers are big and cold. Four of us shared 2 kilos of crab legs, sashimi, wings, scallops, and shrimp plus multiple rounds of drinks for 30,000 yen. The food was amazing, especially the crab. I cannot wait to go back. Just know this place is loud and smoky and shakes when trains go by, so maybe not the ideal date spot.

Clearly people like this place. The only available tables upon arrival, on a Thursday(with no particular happy hour benefits), were reservations. Still, despite claiming to serve fish from daily visits to the Tsukiji fish market, they managed to serve tuna(everyone’s favorite) that was quite obviously frozen and thawed in the nick of time for serving. A place that was otherwise fun, fulfilling and tasty is therefore rendered quite average. The owner seems awesome, but didn’t really get to meet him. Any izakya will do next time.

Simply stated Andy’s is the best restaurant I have been to. I lived in Japan for 18 months and unfortunately found Andy’s just 5 weeks before moving. I crammed in as many visits as I could in those last 5 weeks. Tonight I had the privilege of eating there again after being away for nearly three years… it hasn’t missed a beat. Andy is from the UK and he has been running this restaurant for the past 30 years. He buys fresh fish at the fish market each day and serves it that night. I have never had anything bad on the menu. However, I don’t even look at the menu… I just ask Andy to keep the food coming. Tonight we had a plate of vegetables, scallops, sashimi, and Alaskan King Crab legs, stuffed chicken wings, beer, sake and plum wine. All were spectacular; however the fresh seafood is to die for. The prices are extremely reasonable, especially for Japan. If you are anywhere in Japan it is worth the trip to Tokyo. Make reservations for upstairs, sit back and enjoy the best seafood you will have ever eaten in a fun atmosphere, and with a gracious host. Thanks Andy… I will be back.

I’ve been to Andy’s(Shin-Hinomoto) so many times, it’s like a second home for me in Tokyo. The food is pretty much spectacular top to bottom, and pretty reasonably priced for Tokyo. The sashimi is roughly cut, which has turned off a number of my Japanese friends that I’ve taken there, but the quality is just fine. The grilled fish, especially the John Dorry or the black cod(gindara), may be the best in the city. Andy himself is quite the character and worth getting to know. The top level tends to get quite busy with expats and Japanese alike. The bottom level is almost all Japanese, in a weird sort of self segregation. I’ve eaten on the bottom level, where the menu is the same but the portions inexplicably smaller. Both levels can get very smoky, especially the bottom one. Overall though, this place has my highest recommendation.

This small Izakaya, located underneath the tracks of nearby Yurakucho station(hence the name), was a real delight. The fish, fresh from Tsukiji fishmarket, was nothing less than superb. The tuna was probably the tastiest I have ever had. I also really enjoyed the chicken wing gyoza(how do you even come up with an idea like that?) and the whale bacon. Do swing by. And grab a beer afterwards at the wending machine bar next door. Also a classic venue.
