The Access Narita Tokyo Station Yaesu Central Gate

The Access Narita is an airport shuttle bus service that runs from Tokyo Station to Narita Airport. I had read a RocketNews article about this bus service and thought I would give it a try while in Tokyo. It is one of two airport bus services along with Tokyo Shuttle that offers up a more affordable option to riding the Narita Express train to get to the airport from Tokyo.
The Access is a bus service run jointly by Be-​Transse Group and JR. A bus ticket on The Acess to Narita Airport costs ¥1000 which is a significant costs savings to taking the Narita Express which costs ¥3020. You can buy tickets online, however the site to make reservations is only in English. It is not necessary to buy tickets though as you can purchase them curbside.
The location of this bus service is outside Tokyo Station. Specifically look for the Tokyo Station Yaesu South Entrance. This bus will be stationed at platform 7. The first bus to Narita Airport leaves just before 6 am from Tokyo Station and the last one leaves just after 6pm.
There is plentiful bus service as there is a bus leaving every 10 – 20 minutes. Since the bus is traveling by road, the ride to Narita Airport takes 80 minutes, compared with 53 minutes on Narita Express. However, you should know that Narita Express typically runs every half hour so that time difference is not as huge.
The signage on the front of the bus could be better in making it obvious that this was The Access Narita bus. However, there is signage on the curbside indicating that the bus is destined for Narita Airport. You can also confirm with the driver before getting on that this is the correct bus if you are not completely sure.
The bus is equipped with a bathroom in the back, but it doesn’t have any Wi-​Fi onboard. The seats were alright from a comfort standpoint. They are pretty no frill seats. Narita Express wins in this category as the train is a more comfortable ride than this bus. Upon taking this bus, my biggest concern was if the bus would encounter any traffic. But it was an non-​issue as it was mostly a smooth ride to Narita and we got to the airport on time.
The last reason why I liked taking this bus is that they drop you off at the entrance to your airport terminal. In my case, they dropped me right outside Terminal 1 so I didn’t have to tug my luggage bag very far unlike if you are taking the Narita Express which arrives at the basement level of the terminal.
Overall, I enjoyed taking this airport shuttle bus service to Narita Airport. The fare price, convenient bus schedules and curbside dropoff location are the reasons why I would recommend taking this bus over Narita Express. The only area where I think Narita Express wins out is in comfort getting to Narita.
