Stopped here for lunch. Unagi lunch specials were already sold out before noon! Oh well, I wasn’t going to let that stop us. Ordered the tempura set lunch. Miso soup employed a rich flavorful red miso that went well with the mushrooms inside. The pickled vegetables were not too salty and paired well with the dried anchovies on the rice but could have used more of either. The tofu dish was a delightfully cool refreshment on such a hot summer day but lacked much flavor. But this is the tempura set so how’d that do, right? The mix included kabocha, shrimp, squid, Japanese eggplant, and root vegetable. The crust was done well, although maybe could have been a bit lighter. The contents were all perfectly cooked. Overall delicious! The chawamushi was the weakest element. The ginkgo nuts and shrimp just didn’t come together well – too much soft mushy textures. But the rasberry dessert to finish had a fruity punch and rounded off the set well. Overall a decent meal with room for improvement.
