A Tokyo classic. They say this place started the«bio wine» movement in Tokyo which now seems to have infected the whole city. They also are I’m sure an early adopter of the Tokyo wine bar custom of not having a wine list: you just tell them what kind of wine you like and they bring you a bottle. With a bit of trust, it works great. I think Unilocal has the categories right: wine bar and steakhouse. It’s really just a small restaurant with great wine and great steak. While the steak is fantastic, it is generally served as a compliment to the wine. Staff is friendly but very limited in English. You probably need to get someone to call and reserve for you in Japanese. Once you are there the staff are welcoming and make it work. The clientele is quite sophisticated and every time I’ve been there there have been friendly folk at the next table who have helped us translate

Shonzui’s specialty is their beef that’s exceptionally good. It’s definitely one of my favorites in the Roppongi area when it comes to meat. The highlight is their beef rump steak that has an incredibly rich flavor in it. I’m certain you’ll be surprised how flavorful beef rump can be. The secret is their way of maturing beef and it gives beef this stunning taste. If you are a big beef steak eater, you’ve got to go there asap. I’m also a huge fan of their french fries; the potatoes they use thave very strong flavor and they are just so good! Other dishes are also high quality and they serve good wines too. You should absolutely check it out; don’t forget to make a reservation!
