During our stay in Tokyo, we decided to book an afternoon tea experience. After reading reviews on about 5 places; I ended up booking a reservation for two at Ritz-Carlton Tokyo one month in advanced for a 2 pm time slot. Afternoon tea takes place at the Lobby Lounge & Bar located on the 45th floor of the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo. We were seated in the middle of the establishment, but I could still see the spectacular view of Tokyo from my sea. The wait staffs were all refined, polite and extremely helpful. My cup of tea was never empty, and they often came by to check up on us. Japan doesn’t have a strong tipping culture, so they refused to accept additional tips. Ritz-Carlton Tokyo does have a mandatory 13% service charge but that’s clearly stated on the bill and menu. In terms of prices; afternoon tea in Tokyo seems so much more expensive compared to the places in Toronto. The afternoon teas available in Toronto are no more than $ 50 per person. However, this was our first time in Japan, so we wanted to make the best of it. I opted for the Afternoon Holiday Tea(¥5,000 || $ 60) and he got the more expensive option; Ritz-Carlton Afternoon Tea(¥7,500 || $ 90). The second one had more delicacies such as foie grias terrine and caviar which I got to try as well. It was an overall great afternoon tea experience.

The Ritz Carlton Hotel Tokyo, Lobby lounge and bar.(45Fl). This is one of the most stunning hotel lounges with bar and an astonishing panoramic view in Tokyo. Very spacious and a relaxed atmosphere. Glad they offered me the seat by the window. The servers are well trained and professional, also very friendly, but not too casual. Very welcoming and attentive. When my decaf with soy milk cup became empty, they refilled it IMMEDIATELY. Since I don’t have very much of a sweet tooth, I didn’t think I could eat all of the food on the afternoon tea set(–heavenly Tea-), but they were bite-size, so I was able to eat nearly all! All petit fours tasted absolutely fantastic! The scones also tend to be small which was good for me. You can choose fruit preserves for the scones though actually even without clotted cream(Devonshire cream) or fruit preserves, they were really tasty. I stayed here two hours, the maximum, while bending an ear to the enjoyable live piano entertainment. Actually, I could not eat dinner afterwards because I was stuffed, and still my heart was filled with dreamy contentment. Gorgeous but serene ambiance, finest view, great service, and delicious food, I’d definitely recommend to stop by if you visit Tokyo!

Our table was a cozy corner table, right by the window. We enjoyed the spectacular view with the afternoon tea service. There was quite the variety of tea to choose from, and jam, including organic raspberry and strawberry. Tiers of treats brought out — vegetarian for us. All cute and pretty, from savory to sweet. The waiter poured our tea for us, so we had to rely on him to keep our tea cups filled. Because the tea leaves sat in the pot, the brew got bitter by the 2nd cup. There was a pianist who also helped make the atmosphere very relaxing for a special afternoon tea.

I visited the lounge for high tea last Monday afternoon and was treated to exactly what one hopes for when reserving a table for high tea: an exquisitely beautiful experience. Everything, from the china, to the tea selection, to the view — is the height of luxury. We were presented with something like 12 blends of tea in a box, prepared to be chosen by scent. I chose a delicate Darjeeling, my favorite. At a 3:30 tea time in winter, we were able to watch the sun go down over the beautiful city view, to the sounds of a very talented classical pianist. I won’t forget it soon. Some minor lapses in service — the staff did not understand my spouse’s shellfish allergy and served it on the same plate as other foods, and they initially charged me for caviar but never served it. I later realized this, and they dug out our receipt and rectified the issue on the spot. No questions asked. We enjoyed the experience so much, overall, that we’re already daydreaming about which Ritz to visit next.
