Salty seaweed and Hojicha(Roasted green tea) that come along the ice cream are what makes this place Japanese. You can put this seaweed into a teacup to make seaweed tea. Or eat little by little in between sweet dessert. I was lucky to get seated in this small shop on a sunny afternoon. I ordered a cup with choice of Matcha, Sesame and Vanilla flavor. Unlike other shops, you get to choose up to 3 flavors without additional charge. Instead, you will select the size of the cup. Because it was my first time, I had to try the basic cream, but next time I would love to try their seasonal parfait and mochi & icecream.

So good! The flavors are spot-on, not too sweet and everything tastes real. Can’t go wrong with any of the ice cream flavors but the tea-based ones are nothing short of spectacular.

«Ouca» is a little neat ice cream place which is located near Ebisu station, always filled with girls. You get to choose from a variety of flavors and buy it for to-go as well, so it’s pretty convenient to just drop by after having dinner. You can eat in there too. During the summer they serve«Kakigori»(shaved ice with toppings/sweet flavored sauce on top) too and the pics below are the ones I had this time: Mango and Maccha — Both were very good. Another great thing about this place is that it’s open till 11pm, which is pretty late for an ice place place. When I have dinner in Ebisu, I usually skip a dessert at the restaurant I have dinner and come here for an ice cream. My rating: 4.0

Deliciously flavored ice-cream. We had roasted green tea, fried dough balls(or something like that), and watermelon. Watermelon tasted like real watermelon(as opposed to watermelon flavoring). We also saw a shaved ice treat shaved like a bear that looked interesting.

Cute spot! Unique and tasty flavors. I got the matcha green tea, milk, and sakura red bean. Comes with a flat biscuit. Was refreshing on a hot day. It also came with salted seaweed bits for after, which is a surprisingly salty taste that will grow on you slowly with each bite. The first taste was like, woah. And then it’s like, ok… I can get into this. And by the end, you’re like, this is interesting and I can understand why they paired this together and I want more! I’m definitely going back before the end of this trip…

MATCHA. PUMPKIN. SAKURA. ROASTEDGREENTEA. Rotating flavors but I didn’t try anything I didn’t like. The line can be long, but it’s worth the wait, I promise. Gelato with Japanese flavors. The matcha has a very strong, deliciously bitter flavor. You can eat the salted seaweed they provide in between flavors to really taste each individual flavors. Tips: ~you can ask for samples, but don’t hold up the line ~if you can snatch a seat, grab some tea to go with your ice cream ~it’s just minutes from the Ebisu station

Great natural ice cream! My favorite is their peach(when it’s in season of course). Although seating is very limited, I see lots of people eating standing right outside the shop. Their pre-packaged take outs are equality good in terms of taste and flavor but lacks slightly in texture, but that’s to be expected with any hard frozen ice cream.

What a wonderful spot for ice cream. If you’re coming here at night, you’ll most definitely see a line out the door, but you should definitely wait! Absolutely delicious. I opted for three more«unusual» flavors. I loved the brown sugar ice cream and taro. My husband and I immediately regretted sharing a cup since we liked the flavors so much. You’ll also get tea and seaweed to go along with your ice cream. Not sure it’s necessary, but it makes the experience even more unique.

I agree with another reviewer who said this gelato is on par with anything we had in Italy. Only better because this shop has so many cool and unique Japanese flavors like matcha, brown tea, cherry blossom, soybean flour(way better than it sounds!) etc. Easy walk from the Westin Tokyo or Ebisu Station with a really big sign in English, so very easy to find for us tourists. After all of the incredible desserts we’ve had in Japan, the wife and I both voted this as our favorite spot and indeed returned three times in five days in Tokyo. I would make a special trip here even if not staying in the Ebisu area.

They now have kakigori! And it’s not only delicious, but also incredibly cute! Only for a limited time for the summer — hurry on over if you’re in the area.

I’ve gotta say it, their«gelato»(with a Japanese twist) is on par in terms of quality, tastiness and texture with that of some of the best gelato I’ve had in Italy. I went with the soybean powder with brown sugar, matcha and roasted sweet potato flavors. They were thick, creamy, and flavorful. The crispy wafer was great too. I could not have asked for anything better and the little ginger chews were excellent to finish it off with at the end. This was the perfect cool down dessert after I had some spicy ramen around the corner. I wish I had more time in Tokyo as I would have loved to returned here. I wanted to get the actual sweet potato topping. Next time. Their service is super friendly too!

Adorable gelato shop. Definitely stop by for a cup if you’re in the area. Tons of weird flavors and the texture is very creamy. Try the sweet potato topped with gelato!
Any place that serves baked sweet potatoes topped with brown sugar ice cream is a winner in my book. But Ouca’s interestingness extends well beyond the tuberous with flavors like salted cherry leaf, black sesame, azuki bean, matcha(green tea), persimmon, kinako(ground soy powder), and kabocha(Japanese pumpkin). Just don’t expect to find any cookie dough or peanut butter among their 10 rotating flavors. You can choose three flavors per cup which the ice cream scoopers at Ouca will turn into a pretty pie chart-like pattern that you’ll be hard pressed not to snap photos of. You’ll also receive a small portion of konbu(salt kelp) for after you’ve finished your ice cream, to cleanse your palate. If you choose to eat in at this Ebisu ice café you’ll also get a steaming cup of wheat tea along with your ice cream and seaweed. Highly recommended if you’re keen to taste unique Japanese ice cream flavors.

OUCA is Gelato done the Japanese way! This quant and very popular ice cream shop is located right by Ebisu station and has a nice ‘Japanese’ atmosphere and look. I think their gelato is a perfect combination of sweet and creamy gelato in typical Japanese dessert flavors. The flavor is sweet and rich, but just so! You definitely can tell the difference between this ice cream and Cold Stone. I love the fact that you can choose three different flavors in one go. For someone that has a hard time choosing, this is a perfect option. I get to try a little bit of everything :) I highly recommend trying the season flavors as well.
