J and I came here on 2÷6÷16. We were walking through Shibuya and we spotted this glowing green sign and this heavenly scent of freshly baked sweet bread. I’m not typically a fan of melon-pan but it’s paired with vanilla ice cream so I was down! I’ve never heard of a melon-pan ice cream sandwich before but I am so glad we tried this because it is SO delicious! The warm, semi-crispy melon-pan paired with the ice cream literally melts in your mouth. There’s a sign outside telling you to be careful while eating it because it can get messy as the ice cream melts. Lol. There was no line when we went, but while we were eating ours right outside, people kept staring and then looking at the establishment. A few people stopped and got one too! Also, the name of this place is funny. I have no idea if this is a joke of some sort that I’m not understanding but I think it’s kinda funny. I want to eat some more! Haha

I don’t get the name of this place. If this the world’s second best there’s not much room for the #1 to be much better. This is a chain dessert bakery shop in Japan. I had this twice in Okinawa’s Aeon mall. Very simple yet delicious. Slightly sweet toasted melon bread, a scoop of ice cream and a small stick of bread as a spoon. Pineapple slice as an extra option. Maybe next time. Bread was fresh from the oven. Nice light crunch that goes well with the vanilla ice cream. Didn’t understand why I got a straw at first until the ice cream melted. Leave nothing behind. A Perfect light snack while taking a break in Shibuya. Enjoyable even in the winter. #15/1002016 Unilocal Challenge.

The World’s Second Best Freshly Baked Melon Pan Ice Cream Bun is a must-try! There was a line there, but it was just a 10-minute-wait. I ordered the one with pineapple inside. It is warm, cold, fresh, juicy, and crispy all-in-one. I ate it in the cold in winter, and it’s still delicious despite of the cold weather. The only trick is that you need to eat it skillfully, or else it will fall apart. They also sell the crispy bread crumbs for 300 yen. I don’t know why they call themselves the second best. Aren’t they the number 1 best?!(maybe they are humble?)

My Mom took me to Japan right before I graduated high school, and just this year I went back alone right before I start college this fall. While I did my best to visit parts of Tokyo that I didn’t go to in my previous visit, this place was an exception. The first time I came to Japan, my mom made it a REALLYIMPORTANT point that we had to visit this«bread shop.» From a glance, this looks like a very antique-ish shop, with the interior taking resemblance to many old-school ramen shop décor. Getting right into the actual«melon-pan,» what I ate could only be described as one of the best things I have ever tasted in my life. Essentially the reason why they call it «melon-pan» is because the bread resembles the shape of a «melon.» However the bread doesn’t resemble any taste of the fruit, instead the outer shell serves as a crunchy, yet thin layer of what can only be described as a «sweet crust.» Inside you get a extremely fluffy decadence of freshly baked bread that literally melts in your mouth. The second time that I came, I had some trouble finding the shop, as it turns out that they have moved altogether. At the original location they have a really nice worker that will direct you to the new haven of the«melon pan.» The new location doesn’t have that antique flair that the last location did, however the taste of the actual«melon pan» did not change one bit. For my fellow Americans, this is a must visit in Tokyo.

I have eaten melon pan and ice cream separately. I never knew how delicious it was to combine both of them together, and this place did a fantastic job creating a melon pan-ice cream sandwich. I am drooling now thinking about how delicious the piping hot melon pan with vanilla ice cream was. It makes me wish this shop was in NYC. I laugh at the shop’s name: «world’s second best freshly baked…». If this place self proclaims it to be the 2nd best in the world, I wonder how delicious the 1st best would taste like. To me, this place is already exceptional! My sister & I loved it so much, we went back on line to get a 2nd one. I agree with the other Unilocaler that it was«HEAVENLY»!!

GUYS. THISISFREAKIN’ AMAZING!!! I’m so glad my bf found out about this. I would be lost without this amazing dessert. Have you ever had melon-pan before? It’s this perfectly sweetened bread with such an amazing buttery smell. Who would have thought to put vanilla ice cream inside it?! GENIUS! It’s a small little stand that serves melon-pan filled with ice cream for 4 Yen each. I had to come back another day to get another one. That good. I could’ve eaten it every day, honestly. There was a line, but not too too long. They are not shiesty on the ice cream either. They give you a big giant heaping scoop of that perfect vanilla flavored ice cream. The warmness of that just baked melon-pan with the coldness of the ice cream is just pure heaven. I crave it every damn day. D: WAHH. I’ve been telling everyone who is going to Japan/lives in Japan that they MUST go and eat it. Now I’m telling YOU! Don’t miss out on this amazingness people!
