After watching a sumo wrestling tournament — go eat what the sumo wrestlers eat — chankonabe! Of course — we got the«smaller» version for lunch which was still a lot of food! Our meal came with the chankonabe which was a stew with chicken, veggies and tofu, Japanese pickles, rice and a potato croquette. The stew was actually nice, light and very refreshing. The potato croquette didn’t seem to fit in the meal but Mike liked it so I gave him mine to eat too. And I’m a huge fan of Japanese pickles so I ate that all up. Definitely try out chankonabe if you are checking out the Sumo Museum, a sumo tournament or the Edo-Tokyo Museum nearby.

I loved this place! It was my first chankonabe experience, and the waiter did his best to help my girlfriend and I through the basics, which was the choice of broth: miso, water, salt or soy. Everything tasted great, including the sardine meatballs which was unexpected for me.
