The most awesome thing you will find in an alleyway around these parts. Just follow the smell and I’m sure you’ll find it. I almost don’t want to tell you about this, so the crowd does not get any larger. Just push your way in(politely if possilbe) and grab some skewers and shove them in your mouth. Does the sign say«intestines» and«liver»? What… What they really mean is «beef» and«beef», just trust me on this. ;) Don’t be afraid to give them a try, you won’t die.

If you’re an onion lover like myself, you can ask for«Negi» and they’ll grill you up a stick that comes with 3 to 4 on it and they’ll even dip it in the delicious sauce for you! Definitely worth the 80 yen per stick price tag even though it used to be 50 yen when I was younger :)

This place is awesome and does take out, dine in, and standing room only eating. This place specializes in Yakitori(meat on a stick) and the price is 80 yen a stick for everything they serve in the standing eating location outside. Inside they have a few more that are a little more pricier but its nothing that will break the bank. Any time the wife and I feel a tad hungry, we stop for a couple sticks to tide us over until meal time. Its quick, fast, and easy. For those of you who have never done this type of place before, you chose an empty cup(there are like 12 at the stall), You pick sticks, eat, and deposit your sticks in a cup. When you are done you grab a tissue, grab your sticks, give them to the old lady at the end who tells you what you owe. She has a table with number of sticks to yen conversion, so its easy to know what you owe. If you do not like crowds, do not like street food, do not like trying something uniquely Asian, don’t bother coming here. They are nice enough to use«Engrish» names on their yakitori and they do make an effort on working with foreigners when you have questions. Just don’t expect a waitress to take orders at something that is self service. If you want to do take out, just talk to the old lady and tell her how many you want to go and it will take a few minutes but you will get a bag with a couple small bottles of extra sauce. The wife and I just put it in the toaster oven when we get home and have it while watching a sports game or something like that…

Be brave! Try the intestines. You may think I’m crazy but so what. Regarding food Sometimes if you haven’t tried something you’re missing out. Welcome to Sagamiya! Located across from TGIF, just around the corner from Burger King. What brought me here? Pictures of this place on Facebook and friends telling me this is the best bargain in Yokosuka. I had to try it and now I am hooked! Too me it’s all about not wasting food. Grilling parts that no one really wants. Intestines, tongue, liver & heart. They have plain pork and chicken for the faint of heart folks as well. At ¥80 it’s a steal and a great filling meal without the long wait. Chow down and place your sticks in one of the holders. If you show up before closing time point to the stick you want reheated. When you are done bring it to the server at the register. He will point to the chart to let you know what your bill is. My advice– try to get a fresh stick off the grill. You’ll thank me later. Also a great place to spend all your ¥ coins.

Just slightly hungry and don’t feel like going to a sit-down restaurant? Then this place if for you! It’s not far from Yokosuka-Chuo station; it’s in a small alley across the street from TGI Fridays. You walk up, grab a stick and munch on! When finished, grab your sticks and take it to the cash register and it’s 80 yen per stick. There are different types of yakitori: hinadori(plain chicken meat), ponpochi(chicken tail meat), tsukune(ground chicken balls; 3 balls per stick), tan(pork tongue), rebaa(pork liver), shiromotsu(intestines; my personal favorite), hatsu(pork heart), and bara(pork belly meat). There’s also a small sit-in venue where I see people order drinks and negima(chicken and scallions on a stick; which is not available at the stand-and-eat part). Hubby and I always stop by here when we wants something small and quick without the hassle of a sit-down restaurant. A favorite in my book!
