Sudu Mamak Cafe

Upon dropping my dog off at Petsmore for grooming, I finally get to dine in a non-​dog-​friendly place here as I always always and always only eat in those that allow my precious pooch in. So I thought why not try this air conditioned mamak?
When I walked in and saw the prices I was shocked! A Maggi goreng for RM8?! Even a nasi lemak biasa is RM4.80. I ain’t gonna pay freaking 8 bucks for a plate of Maggi goreng. So I just went for the nasi lemak. Luckily, the nasi tasted really good with the fragrance of the coconut milk. The sambal was also decent though it was clearly overpriced. However, portion was a little small especially when it is at such price. My mother got herself a tosai at RM3.20 which was nothing fantastic and honestly, it was not nice at all. Worse still, prices are before 6% gst.
Don’t think I’ll be coming back here anytime soon.

Oh man, this is one place I will not visit again. I mean, it’s cool if you have the idea of bringing the mamak concept into a modern shop, but don’t ruin the wonders of it man. RM2.90 for Roti Canai, urgh, all I could do was look at the menu in pain. Everything is so expensive here!
Sure, you want to introduce the mamak life to tourists or foreigners, but this is NOT the mamak life. We don’t want other people to think that we pay RM2.90 for a cheap local food and RM4 for the legendary Teh Tarik. If you want to dive into the local lifestyle, this is not the place.
I think the only reason you would actually, but regretting later, get a drink here is the Wifi.

Sudu means spoon in the Malay language, and is also the name of the newest mamak that has opened in Waterfront in Desa Parkcity. Not to be confused with the other prestigious Sudu from Hilton Malaysia though.
Like most of its mamak counterparts, Sudu offers a lot of entertainment besides just the usual fanfare of food. The LED TVs that broadcasts football channels is one of the leading attractions to the outgoing humans that reside in Desa Parkcity, and with free Wi-​Fi, it is perhaps the most enticing mamak in KL to go to by paper.
Physically being there though, is a different story. Overkill in the renovations of this extremely posh mamak is a trivial but diluting change to the unique culture of these restaurants, and Sudu has lost that essence or ambience that defines the word ‘mamak’. The food is decent, but has never done any nasi goreng or fried rice justice, and it is probably best consumed in the morning, for when you eat it in the morning, you might be too blur to notice the small portions of food in comparison to the other similar restaurants.
Of course, you can choose not to heed my words… Though you might live to regret it for the rest of your life as you sob uncontrollably on your sofa, contemplating about your life.
