This is probably the most known trail for trekking and cycling in KL. I visited here with my uncle a few times and each time, a trail would take us 5 to 6 hours, which was very tiring, yet satisfying. We also did some trail cycling, but realize the trail isn’t really safe. There were hazardous turnings and my uncle was a victim, luckily for him, he managed to fall correctly to prevent anything unfortunate. I haven’t got the chance to see if there are other trails, as we always just stuck to one, but I’m pretty sure there are.

I’m getting tired of the hustling and bustling life in the city, so sometimes when I am free, I would go hiking and just recently, I found a great hiking area. The FRIM has trails and tracks that you can enjoy surrounded by the pleasant sights and sounds of nature. It definitely made my day, even though I was just mostly walking around, it was still time well spent. After all, even walking is considered an exercise. I would rather walk in nature rather than going on the treadmill. There were useful signboards when you’re hiking which is very helpful and the area is well-maintained. So, go for it! Get a taste of refreshing nature.

Situated in Kepong, One of my favorite place when it comes to nature/picnic or hiking. This huge piece of land is divided into many parts, the kampungs, the waterfall hike, the jogging tracks and campings. I do come here sometimes to just walk on the tracks and it is a beautiful place even if i hiked in the afternoon, why? the trees covers me up, blocks the sun and even when im walking on hot weather, i still feel comfortable. To come here, you need to pay RM3 for entry and if you bring your camera to take photos is RM5. Sometimes you get to park inside and if there is no parking, you need to park outside the guard house. They also do fun run event here sometimes and the admin was really kind and helpful in sending me the maps and etc.

If going to the malls or cafes have become a mundane activity, why not go back into nature and have a walk or a jog? Forest Research Institute of Malaysia aka FRIM is one of the better places to enjoy nature at its best. Even though it isn’t a natural forest but a man-made one, it feels you’re in a forest midst of the cooling air and soothing breeze. At the same time, there are couple of activities you could do here. I tried the canopy walk, and it was a good hike up and walking on the canopy was a good experience. It was though quite tiring but worth it. The view from the canopy top was amazing. I was amazed to see from the young to the old willing to hike up. If you’re worried about mosquitoes or bugs’ bite, do bring insect repellent. Though I felt there weren’t any mosquitoes(the place is pretty clean and well kept), just bring one in case of anything. I’d go back for a walk there one of these days to explore the research institute more.

FRIM is our nation’s research institute that conducts tropical forestry research. It is located in Kepong, approximately 20 minutes drive from the city centre. FRIM is a lovely place to enjoy the nature. This place is so huge where you can enjoy all different activities such as jogging, camping, shooting for film, family day or having your wedding ceremony in the forest! If you feel adventurous, you can go for a canopy walk or, trek the forest, picnic near the waterfall or even go for the mountain biking. Although it is near to where I lived but I usually take the nearest for granted! Fortunately there was a family day organised by my company and we had some team building activities there. This place is so fun! We literally spent two hours at Sungai Kroh area with some fun activities for adults and children. There are quite a long list of rules and regulations(mind you because this is a research institute so bear with it!), therefore it is very important for you to bind and follow the rules. You may find it very difficult to go there with public transport, so please make sure that you go there with a car — possibly. Parking can be a challenge, so please remember to arrange proper transportation. If you are going there in groups, please make sure you contact them and make necessary arrangement beforehand, otherwise you will expect a delay at the entrance!
