I am a huge fan of Vietnamese food so obviously when I heard they were opening a Vietnamese baguette shop, I sprung my way there to get me one of those freshly-baked, hot and crispy loaves! Unfortunately, they got my order wrong after I told them 3 times and there wasn’t enough of… anything inside the sandwich. Although the bread was still amazingly tasty and crunchy, the lack of pickled vegetables inside made the sandwich a lot more dry than it already is plus I only had two little blobs of tasteless chicken. The staff looked bored(I would be too if I was listening to the same Grizzly Bear song on repeat all day– whats up with that?) but they were friendly when engaged in conversation. I wouldn’t say they had much of an ambiance going as the walls were just lined with Sriracha bottles and the interiors are a tad bit grim as their choice of color is mostly black. I wouldn’t make my way back here again sadly but perhaps I would have better luck at their other branch?

I love sandwiches and after a year in UK the sandwiches in this part of the world pale in comparison. Everything was tastier in UK, the meat was fresh, the flavours and the variety of greens and dressing were amazing. Best of all, it doesnt cost you an arm and a leg to get a decent sandwich. After grumbling to Nick a couple of times, he suggested I try Pickle & Fig in Taman Tun Dr Ismail and the O Banh Mi in 1 Utama or the flagship store at Damansara Uptown. Since we plan to catch a movie later, we headed to O Banh Mi on the lower ground floor of the mall. I was impressed by the chic interiors. Step inside and you will see a counter with a board listing the Banh Mi and smiles of the friendly crew. You order and pay for your food and the food is delivered to your table. Service was prompt. Both of us ordered Banh Mi. Nick had the O Roasty which had generous silvers of pork with a sunny side up. There was a generous helping of pickled vegetables and coriander. I had the O School and the Bahn Mi was filled to the brim with a meaty mix of lemongrass chicken, pork pâté. We also ordered a Phở but after tasting it, we both agree that the Bahn Mi sandwiches are the clear winners!

I am always a sucker for sandwich joints that bake their own bread and Obahnmi does it just right. Their«baguettes» are baked fresh, thin on the outside and light on the inside. The«OMG» bahn mi consists of a melting-ly delicious pork pâté with an egg layer that is rich yet does not leave you feeling heavy on the appetite. The crunchy veggies that accompany it left lingering notes of herbal nuances. The«O School» is an original, made up of lemongrass chicken and an amazing chili sauce that screams Vietnam, spicy and tangy, yums! That day, my partner ordered some«O Rolly», deep fried spring rolls filled with minced pork, mushrooms, glass noodles and shredded carrots. Nothing fancy but can be a good snack with some coffee. And oh, the coffee… We had a Vietnamese Coconut Milk coffee, a version of coconut milk ice which can be dug and eaten like ice cream. Of course, stick to the traditional Vietnamese milk coffee and you wouldn’t be disappointed!

I’ve always passed by the Banh Mi in Damansara Uptown but never tried it until today. So when I saw that they had an outlet in 1U, I was intrigue. After a fulfilling day of shopping, my mother and I agreed a nice cup of lemongrass tea was just was we needed. We also ordered a bowl of dry grilled pork noodle(RM12) to share. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It comprised of thin, springy noodles topped with chunks of barbecued pork and juicy fried spring rolls complemented by sprinklings of fresh mint, basil, and peanuts. The result was a absolutely refreshing and enjoyable experience. The fried spring roll was was not too oily which was a plus point for me. Along with the sweet chilli sauce, my mother and I walloped the whole thing in less than 10 minutes. I would definitely come back and maybe try their Vietnamese baguette which is what they are known for. Although, I would be tempted to order the same thing again. That is how much I liked it.
