Hoong Foong is my favourite go to dim sum coffee shop. Their standards are equivalent if not beyond those in clubs and restaurants. I wouldn’t mind travelling far to eat their dim sum. The coffee shop itself is quite spacious but it can get very crowded during weekends or festive seasons. What I love most is the huge variety that they have for every type of dim sum: the deep fried ones, the steamed ones, the baos and buns, carrot cakes, chee cheong fun, you name it. The best part is the fact that they cooked each of the different types of dim sum very well. The deep fried dishes such as the deep fried yam dumpling is crispy on the outside and the yam is not too starchy with a good balance of meat. My personal favourite is the salted egg custard bun. First of all, the bun is big. Then again, most of Hoong Foong’s portions are big. Second of all, the bun oozes out custard the moment I bit into it. I remembered at one point my sister and I ordered up to four baskets of it. How does the dim sum service work at Hoong Foong? All you have to do is put up your hand and a waiter or waitress will come and ask you what type of dim sum dishes are you looking for and will bring to you a huge basket full of different dishes to choose from. The place is relatively clean, and service is good. Can’t wait to go back there again some time soon!

I was craving for dimsum the entire week and was so glad when my friends finally decided to have dimsum for breakfast this morning! We arrived at the restaurant at around 7.30 a.m. and were the first customers there. Parking wasn’t difficult as it was still really early in the morning. Hoong Foong has such a big variety of dimsum that we found it difficult to choose as everything on the menu looked really delicious. It didn’t take long for a food to arrive and we couldn’t wait to dig in! I really loved the salted egg mai, bacon roll, big prawn mai and the beancurd skin roll with bamboo shoot & prawn. I think these dishes stood up most to me because it was somewhat different from the usual dimsum restaurants. There just isn’t any other way to explain the deliciousness of the dimsum. Just thinking about the food we had this morning is making my mouth water again. The fried carrot cake was lovely as well. I’m usually not a fan of fried carrot cake but this one was really yummy and flavorful with a generous amount of bean sprouts and egg. It was by far one of the best fried carrot cake I’ve ever eaten! When the four of us were done stuffing our faces, we were so full. The waiter surely did underestimate our eating abilities haha. We also ordered the egg tarts but because it was early, the egg tarts were not ready so we cancelled our order as we couldn’t consume anymore. I have never been more satisfied with satisfying my cravings before! Service was good and the food was great! In addition to that, the food was unexpectedly inexpensive! I’ll definitely be back in the near future to try the rest of the menu :)
