Little Fat Duck

One day our friend Jon suggested we try Little Fat Duck in SS15 for dinner. I love duck and thought why not, jumping on the offer and went. Imagine our surprised when we found out duck is definitely not on the menu!
Its distant cousin — chicken, is fortunately on the menu. We tried the chicken confit (RM12.00), which was only so-​so, the mash potatoes definitely tasted powdery. The mushroom soup (RM4.00) was quite diluted although with relatively generous amount of mushroom bites. All the pasta dishes were RM5.00, and we tried the pesto fish. We couldn’t quite determine if the non-​pesto-​looking-​tasting-​paste was indeed pesto, so that was a downer. We also had the aglio-​olio which we quite liked. The food portions are really small so we had to order multiple servings of the same dish, which then came in multiple packaging, something really wasteful in my opinion. The food truck mainly serves as a takeaway so it’s somewhat understandable, but even the sit in patrons at the make shift tables and chairs receive the food in packages with plastic cutleries.
All in all, the food was underwhelming but nonetheless it was a unique concept experience as food trucks are still quite a novelty in KL. I do wish to see growth in food truck businesses as there is plenty of room for improvements. Little Fat Duck is for now probably catered better for the college /​university community within Subang Jaya seeking no frills and affordable Italian meals.

I’ve always been curious about this food truck, whenever I drive pass ss15 during night time this black food truck always seem to catch my attention. So naturally being the foodie that I am, I gave it a try and to my surprise they serve pasts dishes for only RM5, now that’s a steal.
I love pasta and I’m very critically about the pasta dishes I’ve tried at other restaurants, I hate it when you order a plate a pasta and all you get is pasta sauce straight out of a bottle, to me that’s just not right. The Little Fat Duck’s pasta however takes pride in the food they serve. The sauces are made from scratch using fresh ingredients giving it not so much of a processed flavor.
I tried the Bolognese Pasta, it was really good, the portion was fair and the sauce was meaty and delicious. The sauce has a slight sweetness to it, compliments of the bay leaves used to prepare the dish. This is really value for money, I was happy and my tummy was happy too!

The city folks in KL are always on the hunt for food no matter what time of the day it is. Seizing the opportunity to prey on hungry students around the area, Little Fat Duck has pioneered the food truck movement in KL by establishing a base in SS15 Subang Jaya opposite Public Bank. Known for their RM5 pastas (Bolognese, carbonara or aglio olio), Little Fat Duck has managed to attract a variety of people from students to families looking for a cheap and quick supper fix.
The food truck only operates from 8pm onwards and has thoughtfully set up a makeshift eating space for diners who want to dine in. Little Fat Duck claims that their sauces are all made from scratch as they strive to avoid preservatives. I first tried the RM5 pasta which wasn’t too bad considering its low cost though the few pieces of bacon in my carbonara wasn’t fulfilling enough and I even contemplated a second order. If you’re looking for a light meal, then this is it else a double portion of pasta will suffice.
I was pleased to note that the pasta sauces wasn’t watered down and was well executed in terms of flavour. A more pricier option at Little Fat Duck will be the chicken confit or grilled fish with hollandaise sauce served with a helping of mashed potatoes priced at RM12. The grilled fish was actually quite good as it wasn’t overcooked but I had a sneaking suspicion that the mashed potatoes weren’t made from scratch and came from an instant powder form instead. I was also pretty lucky that I didn’t have to wait too long for my order as the guys at the kitchen were efficient enough. I’m not too sure about the ‘gourmet’ tagline on the food truck but this will be a good option if you’re tight on cash and want to skimp on the preservatives.

I had first tried Little Fat Duck when they came over to one of University’s many Bazaars and having heard some positive feedback, I was quite excited to give it a go despite the lengthy queue. Upon looking at the pricing, my eyes flickered like a 14 year old girl meeting Harry Styles for the first time. I mean RM5 for either Spaghetti Bolognaise or Carbonara. I mean seriously RM5! That’s just unheard off. I then batted my eyes and gave that picture of their Chicken Confit plastered across the menu, the most seductive wink I could muster. After a lengthy wait, I finally got my order and proceeded to the cafeteria to lay waste upon my meal. And once again I was left disappointed. The bolognaise sauce was bereft of any minced meat and was extremely watery, while the Chicken was overcooked and slightly dry. Still, I laid waste to it. But if you’re expecting something extraordinary for that price, don’t hold your breath

I somehow love the fact that they serve fuss free pasta and it taste really good. Despite the fact that they do not actually have any duck meat based dishes, their creamy fish pesto is amazing, with just the right amount of herb based goodness. I’ve also had their grilled fish served with buttery mashed potato.
The only issue seems to be their small portion. However, small portions mean that the cost for each dish is really affordable, all below RM10, so if you’re a big eater you can order two (or more) main dishes. They have awesome sides like mushroom soup and mashed potato to choose from.
