Pleasantly surprised. My limited knowledge of European staples tend towards meat and potato type images. Of course, the best dish we had was meat and potatoes.
The service was warm and hospitable. Lots of friendly local regulars. The hostess rescued as by giving the restless wailing one a box of toys and a fun looking high chair.
The breakdown:
— Fish of the day dish — über fresh white fish
— Weinerschnitzel — we ordered thinking it’d be a sausage. Turns out to be a breaded piece of flattened fried pork.
— Beef stew — stick with boiled potatoes. Eat it like the locals. Mash your boiled tatoes up, pour the beef stew over them, mash somemore, stuff your face. Nom nom.
All the main dishes came with a side. The server was kind enough to give us 3 different varieties of sides
— Boiled potatoes
— Cabbage stew type thing — über yummy
— Boiled green beans
On hindsight, we should have opted for the other house special — meatballs.

Loved this place. Simple, traditional Dutch/​German type foods served with family style sides of boiled potatoes, broccoli, and I think carrots. Wife had a gulasch (like a beef stew without veggies) and I had a cordon bleu. Both were excellent and good portions with the sides. This is a place that I would absolutely come back to if we are in Amsterdam again, and want something like a good home cooked meal.

Probably the best traditional Dutch food we had in Amsterdam on our whole trip. Great traditional food and a cosy local vibe to suit.

Our trip to this restaurant was a sad reminder of how differences continue to divide us in this world. Here at this restaurant, in Amsterdam, the home of previous Nazi occupation and Anne Frank’s hiding place, my family and I experienced some of the worst racism and hostility we have ever experienced. Having read the good reviews about the food, we were excited to get a taste of local Dutch cuisine, only to be turned away. The waitstaff refused to serve us and while it was only 7:00pm and the restaurant closes at 10:30pm, they told us that there was no way they would be able to serve us that night. There were several other parties who had arrived after us, but only we were told that they could not accommodate us. I am so disappointed by the reception that we received at this restaurant, and I only hope that the restaurant and its staff will read this review and reflect on their own behaviors and prejudices.

Found it on the «top 10 Dutch restaurants list» on a website for Amsterdam. I was sold when I read it was close to my hostel and offered great prices. Entire meal under 20 euro consisted of a beer, split appetizer, main dish, a desert, and a cappuccino. For that price the taste still tasted 5 star. Tender beef, fresh vegetables, great shrimp, and an awesome desert. The atmosphere was amazing, my friend and i were the only tourists in there and the place feels like your eating in someones dining room. The service was very friendly and helpful and the food came quick. Will definitely recommend to anyone visiting Amsterdam, and will also come back if I’m in town again.
