They have a lot of cheese, yes — but. The samples you can try is in bowls spread out in the store and you have no idea how long it’s been there. Many of the chunks I tried were dried and tasteless. There wasn’t many places you could get a toothpick or other to pick your cheese samples with and you could only guess how many fingers had been in the bowl before you. I definitely reccomend everyone to go almost anywhere else. Why not the«cheese museum» — which has more different kinds of cheese or a smaller cheese store where you get samples served fresh and better guidence among the wonderful world of cheese.

We loved this place on both visits. The staff is wonderful, they love to give out samples and make recommendations, and the cheese is awesome. There’s a variety here for everyone, and all of the cheeses travel very well. We had no issues with putting them in our carry-on baggage without refrigeration for two days. Also, don’t leave without grabbing a stack of syrup waffles(they travel surprisingly well too)!

Do you want to sample every type of Dutch cheese imaginable? OFCOURSEYOUDO! Because obviously cheese will make you just like Doutzen Kroes. Henri Willig leaves open-air samples of all their cheese wheels in the most perfect portion: a little shaving. Taste-test as many as you’d like. I didn’t want to risk bringing too many cheeses back to America(just kidding, ate it all in Europe), so I settled on one: the Holland Kaas with truffle. OMG. Shave this on a salad, or anything. It’s so good. I’m amazed that I didn’t eat it in one sitting. When pairing this cheese, I recommend a very mild cracker — nothing too grainy, which would compete with the rich truffle. Also in the shop: stroopwafels(delicious, but totally accessible in the US or elsewhere and easily crushable in a suitcase) and other sweets. I settled on the cheese, because that’s what this place does best. There are two other locations, though this is the only one I tried as it’s in the central location near the main station. Enjoy!

I recently found their card and was surprised that I forgot to review them when I was writing up all my reviews for my trip. The cheese was amazing! And, as previously mentioned, just tons of free samples. Every cheese and cracker had a sample. My friend and I were in cheese heaven. It was very difficult to decide what to buy and not go too crazy. The woman behind the counter was super nice. She even told us the history of the owner of the business and showed us some photos. I thought that was great that she told us the back story and you could tell how into the cheeses she was– she was pretty helpful in narrowing down our final selection! We bought several cheeses. My favorite was the sheep’s cheese. Very mild(I’m not a fan of bitter or sharp cheese). We gave some as gifts to relatives in Norway and took some home(lasted quite a long time). The price was remarkable too! You can’t get huge chunks of cheese for a similar price in the US, that’s for sure. If we ever visit Amsterdam again we’re going to stop in and stock up!

Fantastic cheese shop in the centre of Amsterdam. The best thing about it is the free samples — literally plates of every available cheese that you could help yourself to. This is like a red rag to a bull for me. Free cheese? of course I’m going to gorge myself until I’m sick! The shop is also beautifully presented and has some quirky objects inside such as large vats used to produce the cheese. As well as cheese, the shop also sells chocolate, waffles and sweets — more free samples here! I left with some goats cheese with herbs and a pesto flavoured cheese, as well as some caramel waffles(and a full tummy!). It’s fairly expensive here but I think I must have eaten at least € 5 worth while browsing so the higher prices are only fair.
