What a delightful hotel. It’s a very old building, but well kept and with lots of great atmosphere. The location is wonderful, so close to museums, shopping and dining.(The only drawback to the location is that most of the tours start at hotels closer to the Central Station which is not withing walking distance, although there is good trolley service.) The breakfast is typical of Europe: bread, cheese, sliced cold meats, cereal and warm hard boiled eggs. The only fruit was a bowl of fruit cocktail. But they had a wonderful coffee machine that dispensed not only coffee and hot water but cappuccino, café au lait, etc. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. Just one word of warning for Western tourists: the hotel doesn’t supply toiletries, which may be standard practice in some European hotels, so bring your own shampoo, etc.

This was our first stay in Amsterdam. The hotel is in excellent location. Walking distance to major museums such as Van Gogh museum. If you are expecting Las Vegas luxury in Europe I suggest you look for different accommodation. But if you understand that most buildings here were built in early 20th century then you will be more understanding. They also offer complementary breakfast that will fill you up for a good start.

At first, I gave Aalders three stars, but I just couldn’t keep it that way, as it is a very nice hotel in a gorgeous and convenient location. Without any warning, however, on day 2 of our stay, construction workers set up a ledge outside our window, obstructing the garden view, making noise(though not too much: the polite Dutch aren’t going to be barking away), and causing a loss of privacy during the daytime. The room was big, beautiful, and comfortable, though, and the view, when we had it, was outstanding. Breakfast is adequate but not memorable. There isn’t any muesli but apple granola, and the croissants do not seem fresh. First-world problems, I know, and it’s a small hotel, so you’re not going to get a hot buffet. The staff are pleasant and the rooms couple cleanliness with old-world charm. The location can’t be beat; you’re in a fancy neighborhood right next to the museums. You could do much worse.

Nice room in a clean hotel. We only stayed one night but it was very quiet. Close to the tram and lots of activities.

Stayed at Hotel Aalders for 3 nights. My single room was probably the smallest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in! But I knew in advance that it would be small, was traveling alone, and was not planning to spend any time in the room anyway, so it didn’t matter to me. The room was very comfortable and looked out on a beautiful garden in the back. The location is perfect — literally around the corner from Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum, one block from an extremely upscale shopping street(think Rodeo Drive), and within easy walking distance of many excellent restaurants, shopping districts, and tourist attractions. Also, one of the excellent electric trams runs right past the end of the street, and an INGATM is about 100 feet away at the other end of the street(just around the corner). Free Wi-Fi worked well, breakfasts were excellent(although all cold food as is usual in Europe), and the staff was all-around helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay here again.
