Museumplein

Ein grosser Platz umrundet von Museem (Stedelijk Museum, Van Gogh Museum, Diamant Museum, Rijksmuseum). Dort befinden sich ebenso die über 2m grossen «I Amsterdam» Buchstaben und ein Brunnen, der im Winter zu einer Schlittschuhfläche wird. Oft gibt es Objekte von diversen Künstlern, die auf dem Platz stehen.

In the summer it’s a nice place for a picnic, it’s also the site of many big events in Amsterdam from music festivals to outdoor World Cup football (soccer) viewing. Nice panoramic views of the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum, and the Concertgebouw. You can usually find the ‘iamsterdam’ sign here, and in the winter there’s an outdoor skating rink.

This is a beautiful park in the Museum Quarter that is behind the Stedjelik and leads up to the front façade of the Rijksmuseum. The small stands, various musicians and street performers present on any weekday were a snapshot into the happiness caused by a park surrounded by various institutions of art. In addition to containing the iconic «iAmsterdam letters» and picnic areas, back in April Museumplein also had my favorite outdoor market, which I accidentally found while walking through the quarter on a Sunday. The couple of dozen food, craft, clothing and merchandise stands were easily the nicest and most varied of the four markets I saw there. In addition to the local herring (raw and outstanding) and chicken curry, my favorite stand was the one selling large standing lamps made of tea sets. Watching that small man playing a Didgeridoo was also something I did not think I would see outside of Australia.

Great grassy area to enjoy a picnic. The homeless World Cup was going on when I stayed in Amsterdam so I saw a lot of people playing soccer on the grass as well as in the event area. Cool experience to see these teams representing different countries.

My favorite daytime spot in Amsterdam. It’s a great place to picnic, relax and people watch. And there’s always something going on here. Last time I was here, some friends and I were planning on going to the nearby Albert Heijn and having a picnic. But instead, when we arrived, we were surprised with a vegetarian festival in which they were trying to break the record for number of free vegetarian meals served. Who would be unhappy with free delicious food?
The grassy area is great place to watch people play soccer/​football as well as all the dogs running around. It’s also a huge space so I’ve never felt like it was overcrowded. It’s also fun to sit on the I AMSTERDAM letters or watch all the tourists climb the letters. There’s also a playground, a skatepark and a basketball court. I definitely recommend spending some time here.

Who doesn’t love an area surrounded by museums? Ok, fine maybe some people, but I loved it. There is the Van Gogh, the Stedelijk, the Rijksmuseum, and even some lesser knowns like the Diamond museum and the House of Bols.
This is the area where people take their favorite I AMSTERDAM shots. There are sometimes fun festivals going on in the area too. At one point during our trip there was a roots festival so the area was swarmed with people. They had food stalls and a stage set up. Tons of things to see and do.
When we were there, we saw a Miffy exhibition. There were a row of large painted Miffys that were going to be auctioned off later for Unicef. It was really cool.
There is a ton of grassy area, so people can sit and relax. This area is one of the must sees of Amsterdam.

I love Museumplein. A wonderful green space in the heart of the city. This is a great place to gather and picnic with friends or just simply to take in the fresh air. Its surrounded by some of Amsterdam’s most famous Art Museums and hosts the famous giant I AMSTERDAM letters. Museumplein is easily accessible via many tram lines or just a short walk from the city center.

If you love art museums as much as I do, you definitely have to come here. Several different museums within half a mile. Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum and Diamant Museum are all here. Trams and buses stop here so, it’s definitely easy to get to. Walking rom one museum to another is quite delightful. There’s a walking path that connects all museums and grassy areas where people can just sit and do whatever.
There are cafes and snack shops inside and around the museums. Relax, unwind, chill… you’re in Amsterdam!

Sehr schöner Ort, nach dem Umbau. Zwischen Reijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum und Stedeleijk Museum gelegen. Immer was los, schön für einen kurzen Zwischenstopp. Viel Wiese zum rumsitzen und Leute betrachten.

Lovely! I can only imagine how nice it would be in good weather, which I was not blessed with when I came here but it was still beautiful. Two of the best museums (according to most at least, not to me) in Amsterdam and the iamsterdam letters are what brought me here. If I lived here I imagine I would come here often to people watch, read a book, or enjoy a cup of coffee.

I love coming to this big place on a sunny day because there is always something going on. On this particular day, there was a rave going on in the park in the middle of the afternoon. You gotta love it. This is a good place to lay out on the grace, see some new sites, and get some good food in the area too.

Very charming and classy part of Amsterdam! I love the big grassy area surrounded by beautiful museums! The area is also used for various events and concerts throughout the year.

Nice big fountain to cool down in on a hot summer’s day, big grass field with dogs playing around and of course the super amazetastic museums. Nowhere else in Amsterdam will you have this much space and be able to sit or stand as you like without five hundred people bumping into you. This place is just great and on top of all that has a half pipe and plenty of options for food and drinks.

Pues una explanada de hierba entre los que probablemente sean los 3 museos más importantes de Amsterdam, salpicada con fuentes donde la gente se baña en las tardes de calor extremo, bancos que se ven ocupados exclusivamente a la sombra, esculturas sacadas del planeta madre de Astrako, y un par de perretes jugando entre sí porque, sin ellos, nada sería lo mismo.
Pero no da mucho más a pesar de ser un enclave bastante bonito y activamente cultural; si acaso tenderá a mejorar mucho si, al contrario que yo, aprovechas para llevarte el libro y leer. Pasarlo como tonto por toda la ciudad como he hecho yo no sirve de mucho.

I love the Museumplein. There is so much space! It never gets to crowded because there is just plenty of room for everyone. It is a great spot for a picnic as well if you buy your food at the Albert Heijn over there. The view at the museums is also lovely. The Rijksmuseum is truly beautiful and an amazing sight. The new Stedelijk Museum is very modern and a contrast but also fits in the whole picture perfectly.
There are differant options if you want to sit on a terrace as well. There are a few food stands that sell sandwiches, hotdoggs and drinks and they have there own terraces. A good choice would also be the restaurant of Stedelijk Museum with the many seats, nice design and good menu.
Museumplein has a very international feeling I think. It always reminds me of other European cities. It is a very beautiful piece of Amsterdam, loved by locals and tourists both, and great for a walk or to relax and hang out.

my second home. i must come here 2 – 3 times a day because of my dogs. It’s the largest plein in Amsterdam and they keep the grass very well maintained all year round. There’s always events going on here throughout the year such as Queen’s day or Uitmarkt. They do an amazing & very well organized job with all of the events.
i was told by my dutch dog friends that the city of Amsterdam paid a fortune to have this plein designed by, i believe a swedish landscape architect. One of his main tasks was to camouflage all the tourist buses that stop & park here. I must say he succeeded! i never see a tour bus around. All the tour buses have an underground entrance.
But i must say my favorite time to come is first thing in the morning with my dogs when no one is around except other dog owners. A little doggie playtime, toilet time and chit chat with the dog owners. A perfect way to start my day :)

You’ve seen all the reviews, you know this is a winner, so all I need to say is that this is a lovely, lovely place to see in Amsterdam. Go there.

Huge open space right in the middle of Amsterdam with a great view of the Rijksmuseum and other cool buildings. Large evens are help here but it is also nice just on a normal day. One of the «I Amsterdam» signs are there and in the winter you can ice skate in front of it.

I love this park. It is so simple yet elegant. The wide open space is great for sports or to just take a lunch to and enjoy getting away from the city for a moment. It really does feel like you aren’t in a busy city while you are there. It has a good vibe and of course all the museums surrounding it. There is even an Albert Heijn there in case you forgot something for your picnic.

What a great people space flanked by the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Concert building. It’s a really nice large green space amidst the museums that beckons you to stay awhile. Just south of the Rijksmuseum is the «I Amsterdam» sign and an interesting long narrow pool with sculptures displayed within it. In addition there are several play spaces, a basketball court and a skateboarding area as well as the large green where you can play soccer, volleyball or frisbee. There is also an off leash dog area. It’s a great place to read a book, lie in the sun or just hang out and chill awhile. There are several vendors there so you can buy souvenirs or something to eat or drink.

A definite must-​stop while in Amsterdam. This is the large, open area where you’ll find both the Van Gogh museum and the Rijksmuseum along with the famous «I Amsterdam» sign. It’s free to wander around and take pictures of the buildings and the landscape but of course each museum has its own entry fee if you choose to go in. Always a lot of people around, especially on a nice day, so don’t count on getting a picture in front of «I Amsterdam» alone. A great spot to sit back and relax while watching a volleyball match, enjoying a fresh stroopwafel, doing a little people watching, or just taking in the beautiful surroundings.

This area is a large open space in the museum district of Amsterdam. This is were you will find the large «IAMsterdam» sign with the long line of people waiting to run and get a picture without 1,000 other people int eh same picture.
This area is also were you will find several food stands. One of which sells fresh hot stroopwafels, which is a dutch treat. I grew up hearing my grandfather talk about this treat and how much he loved it. You can find stroopwafles everywhere in the stores, but it is hard to find fresh ones. I was so happy to finally have found a place that serves them. I was not disappointed they were everything my grandfather told me they would be!
