I was really pleasantly surprised by the NRC Restaurant Café. I had walked by many times and always wanted to go in — it looks very inviting and mid-afternoon there’s a lot of sun in the front section. We went on Sunday and had a nice really meal — fish soup with mussels, a kind of flatbread pizza which my boyfriend thought was a bit greasy but I liked and a nice tuna salad with a delicious dressing. We shared a lemon cake dessert which was really tasty. For this and some drinks we paid 50 euros which for Amsterdam I thought was very affordable. I have my usual complaints about being ignored and having to physically wave the waitress over(takes a few tries since they don’t actually look at you!) but otherwise I’m a fan.

Above average meal. I had the pulled pork tartine, which was tasty but had a bit too much cheese. The fries were good but the lemon mayo was trying a bit too hard. The Kaffe Verkeerd was pretty good — very milky with a light coffee taste. The place had the ambiance of a bookstore/coffee shop. Indeed, they had books you could read while eating.
