Never had the chance to try out their food, possibly because there’s mostly nothing to satisfy my vegetarian taste buds, but they do have a good wine selection. Prices are alright and they’re good for small groups, sized 4 or below. Service is decent and they serve free chilled water.

My wife and I were visiting our daughter who lives in A’dam. We tried to go last year but there was a mix-up in the reservations. We tried again and to make up for the mixup, the owner gave us champagne on arrival – a very nice touch. The food was excellent, the service attentive and friendly and the wine list extensive. Strongly recommend on all levels.

Those who know me have surely noticed the communal thread that runs through the food/venues/dining experiences I enjoy the most. That thread involves the following fibrous components: –Small, but perfectly formed(both in menu and in seating capacity) –Robust wine list –Intimate, rustic, romantic… think low lighting, exposed beams, natural décor –Bar seating –Open kitchens –A solid seafood offering –Fresh brown bread with quality olive oil –Servers that know what they’re talking about but don’t make a point to prove it –Well behaved children(if any) who order off the same menu as everyone else.(Nothing wrong with a neighborhood establishment in my book!) Wijnbar Boelen & Boelen had all of these things. Two servers, one chef, one sous-chef and one salad prep made this experience one of my favorite dining experiences I’ve had in my two and a half years of living in Europe. It was simple, affordable and delicious.
