This particular location will aways be dear to me. As children, my mother would take my sisters and I here every time we were at Utrecht Centraal(well, here and the Toko). To many of my fellow Americans, «French Fries» are flimsy filler-food from a fast food restaurant that you dip in ketchup. Until you have tried ‘patat met’ you have not lived. It may be difficult for some to understand the concept of eating fries with mayonnaise, but you may be in for a pleasant surprise. Years later, I returned with my husband, with the hopes of all hopes that he too would enjoy my nostalgia. He did. Let me tell you, he is not the most adventurous eater. If food doesn’t taste like something he already knows and loves, he will never eat it again. We now make our own patat met mayonnaise en pinda saus since getting here would require an 11 hour flight.

The ladies manning this fries-in-a-cone franchise location seemed apathetic, so while the fries did come out piping hot, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and covered in tasty mayonnaise, their customer service left much to be desired. Two other orders were placed ahead of ours, so they made one batch of fries to satisfy three orders. However, since we ordered last, we got whatever remained in the batch, which didn’t fill up our cone to the brim like the previous two orders. My mom and I ordered the medium-sized cone, which was plenty for the two of us to share. I don’t recall exactly how much we paid, but it was somewhere around 4 €, including the additional fee for mayonnaise. It was the perfect form of sustenance for us at the time since we were walking from Museum Speelklok to Centraal Museum and wanted to avoid having to sit down for hours for lunch just to hold us over till dinner. The verdict: This place would score higher in my book if the employees were less blasé about everything around them. Otherwise, the fries are quite good.

This chip take-away is the best in Utrecht, I love it. Fresh chips, made daily. Lots of different sauces to choose from. Good taste, and fast service. Though unlucky it aint healthy. My rating 3* (I wont give more then 3, to take-aways)

Yes! Every time I walk through the city centre the lovely smells of Manneken Pis make me buy their chips, whether I am hungry or not! Fresh potatoes(not frozen!) and fried in 100% vegetable oil. They were voted best chips in the Netherlands last year

A great chip shop. You never have to wait long for some lovely fresh salty chips, large range of sauces, go for the medium as the large(grot) is huge. The shop’s are open til pretty late and are probably the best food to eat on the hoof in the Netherlands
