ASB Showgrounds

Been to an assortment of events over the last few years here and the only complaint I have is that the bathrooms are always dirty due to the use of them & lack of periodic cleaning & restocking of paper towels. Also, not nearly enough baby changing rooms for the capacity of this venue.

Always a great venue for those big shows! Usually they use 3 big sheds for the decent sized shows which means there is a lot to look at. I went to the Food Show this weekend and this venue was great. Each shed was well set up and easy enough to get around. Good facilities and parking. Auckland’s only venue for big name shows.

ASB Showgrounds is the site of many popular events/​expos/​fairs, and it’s pretty much guaranteed to have something on every weekend. It’s made up of a few halls, so they often have more than one thing running at the same time; for example, today they had both the Oz Jobs Expo and the Makeup/​beauty sale — both annual events that are always held here.
The venue is big, and it has a lot of flexibility in what can be hosted. With differing sized halls, there’s a good one for any event really. The parking is ample, but it’d be better if it was free.

I dunno about the Showgrounds. Everyone knows where they are, everyone’s been there for something and we all continue to do so fairly regularly — I was just there this week for the Importer’s Clearance Sale. Trouble is, it’s really not too flash.
They always sting you for parking (cash only of course) for any event and said parking is a really trashy makeshift carpark full of potholes and the bare minimum of space per car. Then there’s a bit of a walk past the old admin buildings and into a great big characterless foyer with great big cavernous rooms.
I know it’s meant to be a blank canvas so maybe I’m just whingeing but I always feel like it could be so much better. So many events are held here — The Food Show, The Parent and Child Show and many many smaller trade shows along with everyone’s favourite The Royal Easter Show. But when I was here recently for Chinese New Year we were all sitting on the concrete eating our lunch. I know it’s probably up to individual event organisers but more seating in the food areas would be great and more shade for summer events would be equally appreciated. And hey, maybe even an allround spruce up and cheaper parking? Just saying.

The ASB showgrounds have been the site of some cracking evenings. I’ve been to several work functions here and they’re always fantastic. There are various sized areas that you can hire, and these have also been wonderfully transformed to suit the theme. They’re centrally located, but still far out enough for parking to be plentiful. I’ve also been to those mega sales that seem to be advertised every other weekend. I would highly recommend them, just don’t get too carried away like I tend to. Recently at the book and music sale, I walked out with BOXES of books. Absolutely loved it. I’ve also done well in the past at the cosmetics and shoes sales, they’re great for bagging a bargain

I’m a regular at the ASB Showgrounds, working Travel Fairs, visiting Toys for Boys and other shows. Apart from its size limitations, it is not a bad venue at all. The main hall is great for medium sized shows, and if laid out correctly, it can be very effective.
The restaurant areas and toilet facilities can become limited, depending on the size of the show, but in general it is good. I am however slightly disappointed that there is not really a grassed off area that they can use, as the tarmac area takes away parking space, when it is utilized.
I’ve dealt with the organisers on a few occasions, and they are normally very helpful, but I do find their website to be in dire need of an overhaul.
SKYCITY’s proposed conference centre could cause a few ructions if and when it is ever built, and the ASB Showgrounds will be the first to feel it.

Billed as New Zealand’s premier events and exhibition centre, ASB show grounds really lives up to its rather stately title. It caters to everything from private cocktail parties, corporate functions to large scale concerts and performances, trade shows, even weddings! It is the team here that really make each individual event personalized and a success.
This weekend I went to Nz’s largest stock clearance sale that happens here every couple of months, which is basically a huge makeup sale with things at ridonkulously low prices (what’s not to love). This event always attracts hordes of scary girls, that relish fights over blusher/​bronzer etc so it’s good that there is lots of space available to make a run for it if necessary. Things were neatly set out, and were easy to access. There is even ample parking, which is always a problem in Auckland.

ASB show grounds is one of those places that always has something happening. From seminars, to cocktail parties, to fragrance shows, to easter shows and much more. The place is always buzzing and hosts some impressive events.
Apart from hosting events, the show grounds also has facilities to host work functions, parties and balls. I have had the opportunity to attend a few events at the show grounds and each time the plea has been set up to the nines and in accordance to the theme. Such impressive execution of themes is only possible with a great event coordinator.
