There’s a lot of middling cafes around the industrial areas of Albany — then there’s this little gem. Great coffee, freshly baked deliciousness and an interesting breakfast menu — a lot of the usual staples but with some interesting(and delicious) twists. I highly recommend the breakfast tacos! The only downside? It’s not open on Sundays.

Depending on how busy they are, the coffee can vary. At peak times I’ve had some mediocre cups and perfect cups. As it is a metro top 50 café I kind of expect a quality cup all the time, which is what I’ll get when its not so busy. All in all The food is great too!

That was tasty. Good quality food made well. Has some good variations on the norms which makes for a rewarding result. Cabinet options looked good, and they have a small varied menu. Enough to cover most bases, even the GF and VG brigades. Service was enough, polite, efficient. Coffee was made well.

Black & Gold is GOLD! They consistently change the menu up, using seasonal produce, and have loads of vegetarian and gluten free options which is essential for any café these days. The Lemon Curd slice is a personal fav. And they are open Saturdays now too. Yay!

A friend visited today and I quickly suggested this was where we should go for coffee on the Shore. It was late in the afternoon, but there was enough selection left to tempt us. Two coffees, ginger crunch to share and my friend couldn’t resist a piece of coconut ice to take home for her dad(his favourite). This café is only open Monday to Friday. I like the interior with its recycled furniture and quirky touches. They are serious about their coffee and have chosen well in the kitchen(everything is homemade and delicious, lots of gluten free options). Put it on your list to visit and also the French Country Factory Shop at the other end of the carpark.

The acoustics make this café very noisy and difficult to have a conversation. The coffee was average — we did not order food but it looked nice. The children had the beetroot brownie from the cabinet which was apparently very nice. The menu did not offer vegan options that I could see, hence the reason we did not order food. We will not return as it was nothing special or out of the ordinary.

It’s early days but I honestly believe that Black & Gold and I are going to end up in a serious, long-term relationship… What’s to love? Well, what’s not to love. The coffee(Supreme) is strong & smooth, the space is light and open but what really got me was their cabinet food. So often cabinet food in cafes is disappointing — stale, unimaginative and carb-heavy… not at Black & Gold. Today I got their mushroom, beetroot & goats cheese pide lightly toasted to takeaway. The flavour combo is already a winner but add in a garlicky aioli and wow… best sandwich I’ve had in a while. I also couldn’t help but notice their glorious array of sweet treats, plenty of which were gluten-free. I didn’t indulge this time but I get the feeling that resistance is futile so i’ll report back on the sweet department soon! Super excited about this new(ish) addition and it’s close proximity to my house!

Found this one online and had to check it out. Tucked away up near the Apollo Drive area around those businesses, it’s in the space alongside other small stores, right on the corner. Easy to spot from the main road with parking available specially. A fan of their décor– especially those cool lights and test tube holder flower arrangements on the tables. Had a great, vegetarian toasted sandwich matched with a genius-combination, banana and peanut butter milkshake! Friends had a well, meat-packed sausage roll which did also look appetising! Would love to come back to sample their other cabinet goodies as well as a coffee– which they are well known for!

Great take on sustainable eatery in the area of albany where others don’t seem to give a dame. Coffee was taken seriously as well as having other brewed coffee like syphon. Coffee was best around and food was well thought after. Presentation was upmarket and not the boring old benedict or eggs on toast. Best in albany

I am very glad have this café near my home. There are some cafes around Apollo dr in Albany area, but I can’t find good café like Black and Gold that can make good coffee and serve nice foods. Black & gold uses coffee bean from Supreme, which has strong flavour and body. that means if good barista makes coffee much better than other coffee but if poor barista makes coffee with that bean, it taste just bitter and worse. Fortunately, you can be served from top baristas in Auckland at Black and Gold. David and Kayoko are very famous baristas in New Zealand and they have worked for many years in coffee industry. David is a judge of National barista competition and also Kayoko is a calibration barista last few years when barista needed to be educated. So busy or not, they always serve the best coffee. That is great benefit to visit this café. I have not had many meals but I had porridge before. Even porridge is not a favourite menu to me, but I had that by chance, It was really delicious, so I can recommend without hesitate. Cabinet foods are beautiful, looks nice and taste even better. I like lemon loaf, actually addicted with that. Just one thing, they do not open on weekend, so I hope to spend time on weekend morning at there someday.

Really good coffee and friendly staff. Awesome atmosphere also. Need to have food here sometime! Just a shame they aren’t open on the weekend. This place would totally be a destination for Sunday brunch. They do need larger take away coffee cups that’s my only gripe.

The North Shore was screaming out for a new trendy café and Black & Gold has hit all the marks. A bright, inviting interior, cheery staff and gorgeous cabinet offerings are just some of the highlights. Their coffee is to die for, both the owners are known for being top notch baristas & coffee connoisseurs. There is a current selection of newspapers and magazines to enjoy while you wait for your order which I always see as a nice touch. There is easy parking right outside the door which makes it an ideal spot to drop in for your daily caffeine fix. I am definitely looking forward to trying out more of their menu & spreading the word to my coffee loving friends.

Really open and funky café, using all sustainable and free range product. Simple menu with good flavour. Coffee Supreme Brazil blend as espresso and many other single origins and brew method to choose from. It is both good for sit down or take away. Good selection of cabinet food and baking to compliment the menu.
