I came here on Sunday night because I received a voucher for this restaurant. The staff was friendly and approachable however the biggest let down was the quality of the food that was served. We ordered the Salt and pepper squid and Beef Croquette for entrées — the squid was tasty(not so much peppery though) and the Croquette was like steak pie filling deep fried(a bit on the salty side). For mains we had a fish and chips, beef cheek ragu pasta and crispy mandarin duck. Out of the three I will recommend the pasta, the ragu wasn’t too bad and from what I can tell the pasta was handmade — very nice and silky, not over cooked. This place isn’t amazing and probably won’t rush back again, but its decent if you want a nice quiet dinner.

Food was acceptable, I did like the the risotto balls entrée, my main a steak was ok too, was a real busy night. What I really liked was the service took names as well as locations and they knew who had moved location at the table. Meals a bit ordinary but good ordinary and of large proportion. Would I recommend it — depends who’s asking.

Meh, it’s OK. As far as New Lynn goes there isn’t really that much to choose from, so as long as you don’t go somewhere gross you’ll be alright. It’s pretty pricey for New Lynn too. But the food is always cooked well, the service is friendly and laid back without being lazy, which is the kind of service you want if you’re from West Auckland. The food is pretty basic, nothing fancy pants, but again if you’re from out west looking to eat out west, this is what you expect. It’s the perfect kind of restaurant for people who aren’t into really ethnic or complicated meals, who enjoy a good steak or a good chicken breast and some fish and chips.

Bricklane is pretty cool. It is a well designed modern venue for having a drink with friends or having a meal with a group or a date. The restaurant has modern furniture in its massive spaces, and the interiors are beautiful with fireplaces and separate sections for private functions. The outside is incredible too, with an abundance of outside seating with umbrellas out on the surrounding deck. The food is good. Nothing overly special. But well made, and the drinks are good also. The service is great. Have had a few friends who have worked here and they have thoroughly enjoyed working here as it is very professional. Staff is very friendly and prompt with orders. Definitely worth a visit or two.

I was pretty pleased when I discovered Bricklane, for something that might seem like a strange reason: it’s the perfect place to be able to take my parents for a meal when they visit. That might make it sound a bit dull here, but what I mean is that it offers classic standards like steak, and fish, and chicken, in variations that slightly less adventurous diners will recognise and be happy with. Just because it’s not cutting edge, gastronomic fusion cusine adorned with foam doesn’t mean you don’t get a good meal here: it’s all good solid hearty fare, cooked well. They have $ 15 lunches and early bird dinners as well, which are good value. The décor is comfortable and welcoming, and I really like that they have a few artifacts from the Crown Lynn factory that used to be on this site: it’s a nice link to the history of their location.

A reasonably good restaurant in New Lynn, Bricklane knows its market and the food appeals directly to them. It does not try to ingratiate itself with Auckland’s in crowd. Having said that the main courses are fairly expensive ranging from $ 25 – 30 but the quality of the food is pretty good. My main bugbear with bricklane was that nearly all the entrees came with aioli. Now I am not a fan of aioli so we got the risotto balls which… were drizzled in aioli. The chef must have some sort of fetish for the stuff. At least they had a vegetarian option(spinach and ricotta parcels) which is better than some of the rival restaurants nearby which don’t offer any. For the meal, we were seated in a booth which was nice as we had complete privacy. The meal fine but we haven’t been back there since and I don’t think I’ll be in a hurry to go back there again.
