Cafe Tran

A highly recommended place, I decided to give it a try while out with a friend this afternoon. Such fun looking over into people’s coffees from the window seats, as they all have different designs in them. Café Tran’s barista either has amazing stencils, or many years of experience manoveuring milk into kool forms. I got a beautiful heart, the people next to me got a bear and an angry bird in their foam. So awesome! The coffee also came with a little biscuit you can dip into it.
The food is also delicious. I had a bacon and egg muffin and my friend had a portabella mushroom special, which looked like a sort of eggs benedict. Very nice. It’s entertaining watching the people of Onehunga walk by, and the staff are very good. I will definitely be returning.

Thank goodness for Café Tran; it’s really the only place to go to in Onehunga that isn’t a) a sad shadow of its former self; b) really, really over praised or c) a bit dingy. The food is fresh, and good, and there’s plenty of options for people who don’t want a big greasy breakfast. My only bugbear is that I wish they had more options for non-​meat eaters who don’t want a meal where eggs are the focus; I often struggle a bit to find something I want that isn’t a bagel with cream cheese. Admittedly this is probably a small group of people so I can give them a pass on this.
The service is friendly; the first time I went in here they made up a picnic parcel for me from the items that were usually dine in options, and did it with pleasure.

I have a feeling that I came to this place when it was about to close, because the staff were unlike the first review for this place — they were slow, inattentive, unenthused and generally not having a good time. I was only coming in for a coffee, so I wasn’t really being much of a hassle, but according to the looks on their faces, my presence was relatively annoying. The coffee took ten minutes to make, which was surprising given that I was the only person waiting. When it came, it had a cute little rabbit face on it; perhaps that’s why it took so long. It also came with a wee biscuit on the side, which is always a nice touch, but did leave my bitchy mind to wonder if they had prepared the biscuit especially, and that was why there was such a hold up. Would I go back there? If I had to. Would I recommend it? Probs not.

Oh this café is wonderful, great service (I’d name a name but they are all great!) The coffee is excellent, they even put a chocolate chip cookie on the top of each takeaway cup and they cater to all sorts of wants, on the menu you will find a «bodybuilders breakfast» obviously a lot of eggs and a lot of protein! Even with another café right next door and one directly across the road they always look the busiest and liveliest of the three.
They also have fast service which is always a major bonus for me and they remember faces, you only have to go in a couple of times till they are ringing up your order just when you’re heading through the door.
