The café itself is very nice, spacious and open. There is an outdoor seating area near the parking lot to enjoy the fresh sandwiches. The bakery has a variety of pastries; custard filled Croissants, Palmier, Madeleines and Fruit Tarts. The custard filled croissant was delicious, although the consistency was a bit heavy for a croissant. The Madeleines were soft and buttery, but I could taste the course bits of salt on the underside of it. The Palmier is sweet, but not the soft flaky crunch I was expecting. Bread is baked fresh in house every morning, which is perfect for my daily need of a baguette. There is a section along the wall which has imported French foods such as pâté, butter biscuits etc., This was my third visit to this bakery. I gave it 2 stars because everything was dense and not light, buttery and sweet the way French pastries are meant to be. The plain croissant was not good at all. My expectations of a croissant include it being flaky, buttery and soft. What I got was dense and heavy with the consistency of a cake on the inside. It reminded me of cornbread. Quel désastre !!! I am shocked because the owner is from Lorriane I believe. Sadly I will have to continue my search for the best croissant in AKL. This one doesn’t even count as a croissant. I’ll call it a croissbread.

I often forget about this place but when I do go I love everything about it. They have delicious french pastries that taste really authentic. This may sound boring but I love their croissants, I know it’s not very adventurous but they have really got them right. They are crisp and buttery on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Its a large café, I wouldn’t call it cosy but it’s accommodating. They have a few cabinets full of different kinds of treats from desserts to cheeses, I suppose this place is more of a deli. They have full onsite parking with no limit so this would be a great place to meet a friend as you would both be able to find a park no hassle and wouldn’t have to worry about time. The coffee here is totally satisfying and goes really well with their pastries, if you are after a relaxing afternoon tea this place is perfect!

This place is pretty unasuming from the street, but with it’s eiffel tower sign it is easy to spot on Mt Eden Road(Three Kings end). No hassles if you are driving, they have their own car park area. More than just a standard café — they are licensed, have french patisseries, cured meats, and bake loaves of bread on site, so are useful for all your entertaining needs. There are even frozen meals you can buy and I’d guess they are gonna be loads better than the ones from the supermarket! I purchased a loaf of bread once to take to a friends house and it very nice. I found the staff to be very friendly and thought they gave great customer service. I think(judging on other reviews) I’ll have to visit and dine in for brunch in the near future.

Located down the Three Kings end of Mt Eden Road, Eiffel is a French deli style café that serves some of the most delicious tarts I’ve ever seen. I’ve been to Eiffel a few times over the years and have always been beyond impressed by the array of tarts, slices, Florentines, macaroons, pastrami, cheeses, breads, and fresh gourmet pies made on site. The interior of Eiffel is decorated so as to resemble a Parisian square, and as well as being a great little delicatessen and café, there is a wee store in the entrance of the Eiffel that sells kitchen utensils and other such supplies. Their big breakfasts are also a good time, and sitting outside in the early morning with eggs and a nice cup of Atomic coffee is pretty unbeatable. The only thing I could fault Eiffel on is their lack of places for customers to tie their dogs up. Because the outdoor area is right beside their carpark, unless customers tie their dogs to their tables — there is the chance they could be hit by cars. Normally this wouldn’t be a problem, but my dad and I witnessed a dog take flight while tied to one of Eiffel’s tables. Hot coffee went everywhere, plates smashed — it wasn’t a good look!

The Eiffel Tower has an established spot on Mt Eden Road, at least the facsimile version that is landmark to one of my favourite cafes in town. Eiffel en Eden serves up delicious coffee and wonderful French inspired food to go with it. They also have the Orangina fizzy drink which is a combination of orange, lemon, mandarin, and grapefruit juices. I like to order their French stick sandwiches with terrine filling for lunch. Then a pastry for dessert is obligatory. I normally come away with purchases including artisan breads of the French variety, cheese and deli meats. There is plenty of parking and the café is nice and roomy with lots of space for customers. Great waiters and waitresses. Love, love, love this café.

So there is apparently a stereotype about the French: that they can be quite rude. I don’t know if its true, but I do know that the(distinctly New Zealand) manager of this place certainly does his best to uphold the tradition. There’s something about being shouted over as you make your order that is a little unpleasant. Unfortunately, despite his apparent dedication, Eiffell en Eden don’t serve escargot — or frogs legs. They do, however, make up some pretty amazing pastries and a reasonably good coffee, so it’s not all bad. There is also an interesting little courtyard area out the back as well as a nice sunny frontage. I don’t know if this place ever gets busy enough to justify the amount of floor space it takes up, and if it does then I can only imagine how stressed the aforementioned manager might get. Worth a visit for the almond croissant.
